Greater combat maneuver feats

Rules Questions

The greater combat maneuver feats, like Greater Trip, say that the target provokes attacks of opportunity. Does the character making the combat maneuver get to make an attack of opportunity immediately after performing the maneuver? Or is it only other creatures that can make attacks of opportunity?

Anyone who threatens the square, including the tripper, may make an opportunity attack.

There is an isssue with combining whirlwind attack and greater trip, and whether whirlwind attack prevents you from taking opportunity attacks on your own turn, but several threads have already gone over that issue without resolution.
