If one of your characters die in a scenario, and you are unable to have Raise Dead cast on him at the time via PP or gold, can you apply GM chronicles you have received later on to the dead character in order to get him to the point where he has enough PP/gc to Raise himself?
I cant find anything that says you cant, but personally, I think itd be pretty stupid if you could.

You can't, since there is no way to apply a Chronicle to a dead character. Even the database system is setup to not allow any credits to apply to a PC marked as dead.
|
callarek sir i hate to inform you but my character. (this particular one here) has 4 mods applied to him after he was killed, and the mod was reported on his own death. so for that sir i am sorry to say that you are wrong.
GDM grr you first. very grr, know please that while i am applying these credits to a dead character it is not the reason i started gming, i started gming way before i ever thought of this nice little ability. Now as far as i know there is no ruling, not to mention whats the differene of me applying these credits to a dead character and a live one? both get strong both get items and what not, the only difference is at one time he passed away and way too broke to fix it. A live character at level 11 could have died ample times, but there would be no problem to him being raised and given chronicles to right? i'm just doing it backwards.
|
I will remind everyone that a GM Chronicle sheet should be applied to a character as soon as possible, not to hold them and apply them in this manner. The only exception is if you judge a Tier 7-11 scenario and only have a 4th level character. You have to hold that Chronicle until your character hits 7th level and then apply it. That doesn't apply in this case it appears.
|
no chronicles have been held, they were applied instantaneously to the dead character. Again i do not see a problem with a character who isn't even used being able to get chronicles. (pregen plays anyone) and a dead character. any player can take any character, and level them up to 11, if played smart without ever using the character in question by playing pregen characters. how is it that if someone can do that, a character who has been played and will be played not be able to be raised from death?
|
but with your argument GDM there not doing anything. each one of them characters is essentially sitting in there rooms sending nameless things out to do these quests. if were going to go into this much realizm in the game then no character period should get credit for anything unless they played it. which means go back to gm's eating mods for nothing. (season 0) remove the 3 xp 4pp mods from existence, or make it to where the player has to play that specific mod all the way through and can not die.
o and while were at it, remove the raise dead spell, true resurection and the other one as well. there not real anyways, how can that character make teh conscious decision to come back to life?
|
ok my bad, i will retract that particular statement, but the argument still stands. whats the point of applying credit to characters that haven't played them. a dead character and a live character are both pfs legal. why should my hard working dead guy, not be able to get anything while my lazy life guy is sitting back getting everything?
|

I know that in this case, the GM credit applied by this GM HAS been tier 5-9 or 7-11... both outside the range of his dead level 4 character. I too can see the concern that a GM can not only resurrect a character, but return him to play "stronger than before" by applying his GM Credit in a creative manner.

The modules a character plays through is like the 'on camera' time a character in a movie has. You dont see the Bothans steal the Death Star Plans. You dont see Lando Calrissian's little maneuver at the Battle of Tanaab. You dont see Han and co run into a bounty hunter on Ord Mantell. But all of those happened in the SW OT cause they are mentioned. GM credits are like that. Adventures and such that a character has while the camera is busy watching something else. Unfortunately, a dead character (Jek Porkins or Biggs Darklighter, for example) dont get to go on extra adventures that we dont get to see but hear about later, CAUSE THEY DIED.

If a PC cannot be raised from the dead during or after the scenario in which it died, that PC is dead and removed
from play. In this instance, the GM reports that the
character in question died during the course of play on
the tracking sheet provided with the scenario and on the
character’s Chronicle for that scenario, and the player will
need to make a new 1st-level character to continue play in
Pathfinder Society.
Sorry, Lyle. This looks pretty clear to me.
If the character cannot be raised at the end of the session, they can never come back.

I can't believe people are asking if you can apply GM credit to Dead PCs, even worse I can't believe someone is admitting that they are!
As a GM, you can only get credit for ANYTHING once.
Arnim, You know better then this..;)
There are a 3 scenarios (First Steps) and a few modules that you can get GM credit more then once for.
|
and this is a GAME, where life and death areinterchangeable, liches zombies, skeletons. there dead. but there still moving. also the backstory i have written for this character if it helps you any, is that he went on adventures in the grave. in the other world. where he fought and bargained and dealt his way back to life and his latest level he took because he was resed and then played, he took sorceror undead bloodline to show the rotting flesh falling from his face. and participated in the last boon event jestercap so he could get a free cap to cover said rotting carcass face up

ok well since thats kinda rediculously stupid, but whatever go for it. I well I will quit pathfinder. theres no point in it for me anymore, i only have been playing lately for the local gamers that needed me to play for them, i'll send them your regards when i tell them too bad so sad, i don't care enough to have to start a character so far back... o and mr vonhasseln i know your going to call me in a bit to tell me no, but please don't. goodnight peoples

If I had my way, this WOULD be the way of things. Last week, I was witness to a table of players who were basically "farming" the Module. Of the 5 players seated at the table, only three were playing for a PFS Chronicle. Only one of those three were using a "leveled-up" veersion of their existing PFS character. In essence, the table was five players playing through a Module with no risk, since the Chronicle would be applied to a character that had not risked anything... not the character that had actually gone through the Module. ASnd, after reading the vague wording in the Sanctioning document for that Module, i couldn't say they were wrong... it just felt not right.

True. To every rule there is an exception! LOL!

+1! And I just snorted Mountain Dew on my keyboard for the second time this month due to a post here at Paizo!

Your call, if you walk away. I've learned in the last year it is impossible to make every player happy. Sorry if you feel that way about it.
In retrospect, I would have no problem allowing you to re-apply those GM credits to a different character, especially in light of the quote from the Guide as found by Mr. Shackleton, since they were applied to that particular character in an honest mistake. I am pretty sure that the PFS Campaign Coordinator would feel the same.

Whenever I see a post like this I have to think it is designed to garner sympathy when it almost universally does the opposite.

Lyle, I guess I'm confused by your insistence. The Guide makes it pretty clear that you need to return a dead character to the living by the end of a scenario.
There are no undead PCs in this organized play campaign. A sorcerer can take an undead bloodline, but the PC is still living. If you have the right certificate, you can play a grave-touched Dhampyr, and other feats can give your PC negative energy affinity, but those characters are still warm-blooded and living.
You want to play a shambling undead thing, a rotting corpse. And you didn't read the OP guidelines well enough, so you thought that you could do so, but you can't, and you're upset. I dig that. But is that really your whole purpose for playing Pathfinder Society? I hope you build a new character with the GM Credit you have earned, and I hope to play with you at some point. You sound like a fun person who has some weird ideas for characters.

I hate to say it, but I agree. If you are going to "take your ball and go home"... I'm not going to stop you. I remember being in that same place though, a few years back over being accused of "cheating the system" by a fellow GM when I made an honest mistake about applying GM Credit. The Campaign Coordinator at the time (J. Frost) was sympathetic and understanding about the mistake made and that was the end of it, as far as I was concerned. Took a month off of GMing, and actually got to PLAY (!) a few games, and recharged the batteries... and look where I am now! So glad I didn't just "take my toys home!"

But did they all have fun?
I used to play LFR and we'd have farming sessions before you could start at higher levels. We'd check which mods had the stuff we wanted (and had played before), and then we'd crack through them at about an hour each. We could get from 1st to 4th level in one day. It was a completely different type of game, but absolutely hilarious and some of the best LFR fun I had, despite losing my new garrote specialist in one of them. It also meant we had characters available in every tier and could try out new builds out of sheer curiosity. Then we settled down for a few months and played it properly again. All LFR legal, all good.

So, you are going to quit the game because you can't cheat...

Emphasis mine.
I would be perfectly fine with this and you giving the credits to a dead player, if there were mods for dead players for which you are describing. But you arent. You are giving him the benefits of scenarios a living character can play through. Since he wasnt living, he couldnt have played through them, and he couldnt get the rewards for it.

THIS is the kind of stuff we dont need if you want to see the local scene grow. Angered outbursts from someone who is supposed to a GM is only going to drive people away.

Ah, mods for dead players - now that I'd like to see. It means I can play right up to and through my retirement, and then carry on afterwards when I'm on the other side...

By "dead players" I assume you guys mean dead PCs.
And that would be fun. A trip to the Boneyard and struggle to get back to the world of the living. If you made it a 1-2 hour quest, it might be useful for the backside of a session in which the party all died in the second encounter.
And I can see more use for it. "Pathfinders, welcome. One of our highest-ranked agents has died, and it's your job to cross the veil and bring him back."
"How are we going to get there, Captain?"
