Silver Crusade

Anyone going to watch this show tonight? It's an end of the world setting where a group of people must learn to survive. No Zombies though.

Sounds interesting, have they shown any previews or advertising of this show or are they doing what they did when over here in the Uk they overdid promotion of the Invaders or whatever it was called and didn't do anything for Surface which kicked the spots off of the other show?!

It's on the Discovery Channel, which likely means it will focus more on the ins and outs of urban survival nd less on the post-apocolypse stuff. Hence, no zombies. I'v got it on tape to watch after work.

I saw it last night. It was pretty interesting, with 'behind the curtain' information provided by three experts who helped to engineer the experiment (which is based on historical data and current theories on 'post-apocalyptic' survival scenarios).

My sweety pointed out two concerns that I missed when we watched it (spoilered for courtesy):

Spoiler:
It's set in an urban environment, and the premise for the show's existence seems to make that an...unhealthy choice.

The 'colonists' seem to have gotten a lot of things to start off with - perhaps too much.

Watched what looked like a preview for it on youtube before I switched what I was watching I couldn't help wondering why they didn't post a watch, mind you they probably weren't aware of the rival bike gang but given the background they were probably told they should have had someone keeping watch warning them when they first saw the bikers and they should have been moving long before those bikers entered the mall or whatever they were scavenging inside.

Mind you what did the rest of you think especially those that actually watched it?

Spoiler:
In the episode, the colonists seemed to take that lesson in the mall to heart, and did post watches in the Sanctuary after they arrived. The shock and sleep deprivation took its toll on them, but they appear to be learning quickly.

My humble 2cp, of course... :)

Good to hear unfortunately if this actually happened the odds are they would have lost a few of their colleagues if not all in the worst possible circumstance.

However it still sounds alot more interesting than the latest batch of big brother being broadcasted over here in the UK!

Okay, I'm still enjoying this but I have a few issues. Mainly my issue is, why did they waste so much time trying to make a wood gassifier. Wouldn't a closed cycle steam engine work better and be less difficult to make? More importantly, it would give them a power source and a way of purifying water in a single system.
