Surely there's got to be another shipping option available? Why do I have no other option but the full 6-10 day delivery USPS priority rate when I'd be just as happy with the 3 month rusty-Liberian-flagged-freighter surface mail rate? Is there *no* bargain-basement alternative shipping option that can be offered?
I'm sure that Paizo has had a look at this issue before, but I'd plead with you to try again. Especially given the current state of the Australian dollar (you Yanks think you have it bad! ;) ), ordering from Paizo is just unsustainably expensive. And that's sad, because I've had nothing but good experiences with Paizo staff, products, and customer service otherwise.

I also would gladly greet an alternative shipping option. Although the European Euro fares quite good, I'm unwilling to pay nearly double the price of the ordered books for shipping.

Are you sure that all of the orders using that method were set to "standard shipping"? Once an order has been set to Priority (even if that only happens because it's overweight), you have to specifically select Standard to get that rate. (If you can't select Standard, then your package is still over 4 pounds).

We'd offer it if we could, but as of May 2008, the USPS no longer offers surface mail. (And the UPS International rate is actually higher than the USPS Priority rate.)
That standard rate really is as low as we can go. Not only is it a negotiated rate that's lower than the USPS offers, but in many cases, we're actually discounting it to you—sometimes, we're charging you less than we're paying the shipper.

Yep, I saw that mentioned in an archived thread, and made sure it was all set to standard. But even the minumum standard shipping to Australia is ~$15, and with multiple hardcover books that adds up fast. Doesn't take too many of those to get over the 4lb mark.
