Goblin Song

Rise of the Runelords

Nobody want to record the goblin song?
I am a terrible singer (i know goblin are not great either), but if someone is motivated to record something with a goblinoid voice it could be very great.

I know this is a lot to ask but let's hope.

Talk to THE JADE, Rone is a damn good singer.

That would be great - record it in a goblin voice... set it on repeat during the whole goblin invasion... really make them want to kill those annoying little buggers

For some reason I always hear it (in my head) to the tune of a song from the old Rankin & Bass animated Hobbit feature.

I can't remember the title or the exact words to the original, but it was near the begining when the dwarves were making a mess of the dinner at Bilbo's home.

something like
"Blunt the knives and bend the forks,
smash the bottles burn the corks.
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates,
so carefully, carefully with the plates."

There were several verses, At any rate, the tune seems to go great with the goblin song.

That was when Bilbo first met the dwarves. The Goblin one went like this :

" Fifteen birds
in five fur trees
their feathers were fanned
in a firey breeze

such funny little birds
they have no wings
oh what shall we do
with the funny little things
...

Actually, here's the song from the cartoon I think he's thinking of. Note the third stanza.

Swish, smack! Whip crack!
Smash, grab! Pinch, nab!
You go, my lad!
Ho, ho! my lad!

The black crack! the back crack!
The black crack! the back crack!
Down down to Goblin-town
Down down to Goblin-town
Down down to Goblin-town
You go, my lad!
Ho, ho! my lad!

*****
Goblins quaff, and Goblins beat
Goblins laugh, and Goblins bleat
Batter batter [...........] ho
Below, my lad!
Ho, ho! my lad!
*****

The black crack! the back crack!
The black crack! the back crack!
Down down to Goblin-town
Down down to Goblin-town
Down down to Goblin-town
You go, my lad!
Ho, ho! my lad!

I've got a question for James Jacobs and the Paizo team. I'm curious to know: what tune do you use for the Goblin Song?

I haven't heard the song from the Hobbit, but I've just found the cartoon on YouTube, so I'll have a listen once it loads.

EDIT: Aw man, if the song is before the opening credits bit, it's the only part of the cartoon that got deleted from the site.

I did find the one that Majuba mentioned though. It starts about a minute into the video. Seems like it'd fit well :)

Yeah, but the tune of the Dwarven dinner song seems to fit the Pathfinder goblin chant (rhyme scheme and meter) is all I'm saying. Plus the dinner song is more cheerful, and the idea of the goblins cheerfully singing their war chant just makes it that much more creepy to me.

That being said, both of the other songs are very good in and of their own.

You may have to break down and rent it from your local video store.

Yeah, that's probably what I'll have to do sometime. Wonder if they'd have it.

Ok for game play only, will they sing it in common or goblin? I know it will strike more fear in "longshanks" if it were sung in common, but seeing most goblins only speak goblin I think it will be in that.

Thanks,

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I finally got my copy of Pathfinder and threw together the goblin song with probably way too many layers and not enough talent. Nevertheless, here it is.

That's quite good.
The background voice is a bit distracting, though- you lose the main voice a bit there. Still, it sounds a lot better than my idea- which was me singing it to the players. My wife probably will not approve of mine though.

Oh my various gods, Samhaine... that was creepy! Ooh, I got shivers... the layers made it really hard to understand the words, but still... Wow! Now I want to pen new verses, or even more songs!

"Yes, K-Tel now offers the full Goblin Hits Parade for the low, low price of 3 gold, 99 copper! Yes, in this never-before-seen collection, you can hear all your old favorites, including: "The cat's on fire, hooray, let's eat!", "I broke my dogslicer in your knee-cap", and their number 1 hit, "Dead Puppies, so much fun!" Order now, spellcasters are standing by!"
