'Greasy' negligently backhands the woman off the bar as he turns on the gnome. She slams against the liquor cabinet and hits the floor in a rain of glass and cracked bottles. He flashes a broken, yellow-toothed smile as he pushes away from the bar. "I'm gonna enjoy this."

Even as he stalks towards the gnome, he begins to change. His yellow teeth elongate and angle inward as his nose sharpens and pushes outward. Skin stretches and bones crack painfully as his arms and legs elongate and sprout patchy, matted fur. His dirty nails grow into crusty, hooked claws that flex menacingly. Within a few steps, his thin frame fills out and gains height as his face takes on a distinctly weaselish look. Straehan finds himself facing a vicious creature that is 50% man, 50% rat... and 100% unpleasant.

Unfortunately, were-rats are communal creatures... and Greasy brought his pack. A half dozen were-rats sprint nearly silently from the stairwells. Some bear fine shortswords, others just their claws and teeth. They vault the tables or knock the chairs aside in their haste to get at you. There is only the muted sounds of their movement, the ring of their blades, and the scrape and crash of chairs being knocked aside.

Jofram feels a tell-tale whisper of wind on the back of his neck, a trace undetected by the rest of his friends. He casts an eye slowly over his shoulder and sees that the doorguard has snuck in like an errant breeze, sliding through the narrow door gap, slick as grease - blade, claw, and saliva-dripping fangs ready to strike. He now stands six and a half feet tall - another foul-breathed were-rat.

OK, time for FUN! The 'rats spent all their actions transforming and moving or double-moving so none get to attack. :(
On a brighter note, only Jofram knows about the Were-rat behind you (U17) and can't shout out notice until his turn, so Jayse and Ushari should act as they would without that bit of information. :)

STONE-FACED KILLA

"What the hell is it with this town and rats?" Jayse mutters to Jofram as he embraces the Calm.

One vial of the Enlarging potion appears in his left hand. He thumbs off the stopper, swigs the contents, is that a hint of licorice?, and manifests his blue blade even as his body explodes to a ten foot height. Mega-Jayse settles into a readied Dragon Stance, lightning arcing up and down his giant blue blade, then points at the pack of six rat-men racing from the north-west. His face splits into a grin as his hand rotates over, switching his point into a 'come here' gesture.

"Bring it, ya fur-clad s##!-eaters!" he smirks as he taps the power of his mind, enhancing his muscles to spring into defensive action.

Move - draw potion of Enlarge Person
Standard - Swig it to grow to Large and fill RS-17/18 (What's the caster level on this thing for duration?)

Jayse fills the open space will alarming speed and has to duck his head to avoid smashing a gaudy chandelier. He is now... MECHA-MONK.

Ushari - time to be a star.

Ushari glances over to Jayse as he grows in size from the potion she had just bought for him. That was money well spent. Too bad that doesn't help Strae right now...

She glances cooly at the ratman leader, and searches her memory for any clues to their weaknesses. Knowledge Local 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

She then points a finger at the Ratman leader and shouts a divine phrase. Soon a glowing ball of force appears on the other side of the rat leader, striking at his flank! Even as she finishes her incantation, she reaches to her pouch and activates Skitter.

DM

Ushari:
They have no obvious weaknesses, save DR:10/Silver, and their best save is Reflex.

Ushari begins to cast her spell and feels cold steel kiss her spine as the were-rat puts a slash across her back. Fortunately, she gets her spell off to good effect as the mystical ally's rapier whickers past its target's defenses - pricking the creature's guts.

Jofram steps away to give himself room to rally his friends with his uplifted voice.

A couple of the were-rats squeak and an odd skittering sounds rises up from the staircase to the basement. A carpet of large, vicious, dire rats flows from the stairwell. They swarm under and around their larger compatriots and the furniture, rushing towards your small group by the door. Each one is nearly the size of a halfling child. Their speed is impressive, they easily out-distance the were-rat clan. Like the were-rats, their slavering jaws are filthy. Your skin crawls at the diseases they might carry.

Round: 2

ORDER: Straehan, Big Squeaks, Ushari, Jayse, Jofram, Lil Squeaks

Straehan notes with concern that what started as two thugs has suddenly blossomed into a full score of teeth-gnashing rodentia. He weighs the situation and the options.

Damn rats are nearly as big as me! And we're in a tinderbox with the girls probably trapped upstairs... so a Fireball is out.

Seeing no other choice, he dodges to one side and retreats back towards Jayse, chased by a poorly timed swipe of Greasy's claws. Safely in the monk's massive shadow, the gnome casts a spell and a rain of glitter covers the lead group of were-rats. They look like they've just come from a rodent Strip Club. Two of the rats halt trying to clear the stinging dust from their eyes as the other two dodge around them, clearly intent on getting to dinner.

STONE-FACED KILLA

Got a request for an AoO.
I'd love to save at least one for the rat man who attacked Strae, if possible. And in Mecha-Jayse form, I have three total.

Gonna use my first one to try to trip the target, which will trigger an unarmed strike AoO via Vicious Stomp attempting to deliver a stunning fist. If another AoO is triggers at that point, Jayse will use his Mindblade 2-handed with a psychic strike on it.

AoO Trip 1d20 + 17 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 17 + 2 - 2 = 28; Inspire, PA.

The were-rats close in but halt short of striking range - looking to muster their forces for a single rush and not attack piecemeal. Even the blinded ones stumble forward a bit while rubbing at their faces. Feral eyes regard their prey. Greasy gambles on his dexterity to dodge Ushari's phantom ally, the small gnome, and the extended reach of Jayse - all to open a flank for the doorguard and vice versa.

With a lash of his tail and a quick flip, Greasy slips past the force creature and sprints towards the gnome then twists sideways to pass him as well... but the enlarged monk's hand sweeps his knee out before he gets another step, sending the were-rat cartwheeling. The spin is cut short by a brutal foot slamming him into the floor. The wood creaks under the assault. Down but not out, the hardy were-rat, lays on the floor shaking his head to clear it.

Distracted by Greasy, Jayse is unprepared for the events at his rear. The doorguard slides next to Jofram, feinting an attack on the half-elf before striking at the massive monk. Teeth and claws dig into the monk's back as the were-rat rends his flesh.

One of the blinded rats extends a long, raspy tongue and manages to lick the glitter from its black eyes.

Greasy is the only AoO. The doorguard took a 5' step. Jayse - you can keep that other AoO on the books for the rest of the round. It is almost certain that the Dire Rats will swarm you.

DM

Ushari and her ally flank and skewer Greasy with precise blows slipped through his ribs. Even the innate hardiness of his race can't protect him from the well-aimed strikes. Ushari very nearly finishes the work Jayse started. Greasy all but swims in a rapidly expanding pool of his own blood. He slashes at the duo and hisses.

First, since the Spiritual Ally is a force construct not a creature, I don't think Inspire effects it. Its blow still hits regardless.
Second, you calculated your potential critical damage incorrectly. All your dice are maxed - so that is 36 not 25 base DAM. :)

Round: 2

ORDER: Straehan, Big Squeaks, Ushari, Jayse, Jofram, Lil Squeaks

STONE-FACED KILLA

Previous round - Immediate: spend 4 pp to take 8 less damage from the first claw attack on Jayse (leaving that attack to deal only 1).

Jayse's mind siphons off some of the rat's damage even before Jayse registers it. The rest of the attack (felt in full), draws a hissed, inhaled breath through clenched teeth.

He fights on, ignoring the direct attacker to deal with the original rat-man from the bar. "Strae, that seemed to work! Jofram, can you get that one (that just attacked Jayse) off my back?! I'll try to move to cover more area!" He acts as he speaks, slamming repeatedly downwards towards the now-prone rat-man in an attempt to knock him unconscious while simultaneously keeping an eye on the rats to the northwest.

tactics/rolls:
Swift action to assume Dragon Stance. Then full attack, leading with non-lethal unarmed strikes on the prone (partial-cover-receiving), greasy leader until he is unconscious. If all three strikes have to go towards the greasy, floor-bound rat-man, run a Stunning Fist on the third attack. (Stunning Fist: Fort DC 18 or be stunned 1 rd and shaken 1d4 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 rounds.)

--- Damage 2d6 + 13 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (1, 5) + 13 + 2 + 4 = 25.
.
After the leader falls (or after Jayse uses all three attacks on him), Jayse will 5' step up/left into Q/R-16/17. If he has attacks left, finish with a trip on the rat in S-14. If that's successful, he'll take the available AoO Vicious Stomp (lethal damage this time) and try to deliver a Stunning Fist. In the case of the trip, use whichever of the attack rolls above is appropriate, and modify the roll by +2. Here's the Vicious Stomp AoO if pertinent:
.
Vicious Stomp 1d20 + 16 + 2 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 16 + 2 - 2 - 2 = 29; Inspire, PA, soft cover (Straehan).
--- Damage 2d6 + 13 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 13 + 2 + 4 = 21.
.
HP 56/70. AC 19. CMD 34 (36 vs trip/grapple). PP 6/11. Stunning Fists: 5/7.

DM

Jayse - you were hurt in this round not the previous one, so you can either heal the damage you suffered as an immediate action (which uses your swift action this round) or use your swift action to take Dragon Stance. Your call.

STONE-FACED KILLA

Wiat. I'm confused. I was hurt before Jayse acted... which would have been last round for Jayse. Shouldn't that leave his swift action in place in the current round?

DM

Round 1: Squeaks moved; Jayse Enlarged; Door-guard slashed at Ushari (AoO).
Round 2: Squeaks moved; Greasy got stomped by AoO; Door-guard 5'-ed & chewed up Jayse; Ushari nearly killed Greasy; and now it is Jayse's turn.

The Were-rats move on Big Squeak.

My understanding would be it happens within the combat round, not your subjective round. Also, in Round 1 you used your Swift Action on a Ki ability.

EDIT: I might be wrong on the actual vs. subjective round thing... some abilities do act on subjective rounds - such as full defense - but either way, it looks to me like 3 Swift Actions (2 Swifts [ki & Dragon Style] and an Immediate [Heal] which counts as a Swift) in 2 rounds.

STONE-FACED KILLA

well, crap... I never realized immediate actions took up swift actions! That certainly makes things a little more tricky. In this case, ignore the immediate action, taking down the opponents should take precedence. Our healer will just have to be on her toes here.

And I didn't realize you ran AoO's that way. My reading was that AoO's happen in relation to the player's round, but we can talk through that elsewhere. Just let me know what works.

Does my gauntlet's TARGET ENEMIES ability require a specific action, or is it passive?

STONE-FACED KILLA

I would think that the were-rats are affected by your Favored Enemy (Human) bonus as long as they were human before lycans. At least if this is the regular template that's the case... I guess Stormy could be using something else. :(

DM

Nope. Jayse is entirely correct. These weres still count as human which receives your max Favored Enemy bonus... otherwise I would have done a little text coolness about your Gauntlet helping you out. :( Sorry, maybe next time.

You have to trigger the gauntlet but if it could have helped you in this case, I would have given you a hint - read as COOLNESS.

Giant Jayse slaps an immense flat palm on Greasy's chest, like he's swatting a bug. A loud squeak explodes from the were-rat before it slumps unconscious. The mecha-monk steps backwards carefully and swings a long leg, catching the 'rat behind him across the head and driving it into the floorboards. The blow sets the creature's head reeling and seems to have shaken its confidence.

In game terms - Greasy is unconscious and the other rat is hurt, Prone, and Shaken.

Jofram ducks the trunk-sized monk leg that swings over his head and spins in a tight circle, slashing the belly of the doorguard. Reversing his blade, he spins the other way to face the approaching horde of Dire Rats and puts another long parallel groove in the doorguard's abdomen. The creature hisses and re-thinks the merits of this particular fight.

Even Straehan's claws rend the tiny little horrors. Nearly half die yet still they come at the command of their larger cousins. And there is terrible purpose in them, as they gnaw and distract their enemies. Fortunately, none survived to 'round the corners' or provide a vicious set of flanks for the majority of the were-rats. Jayse, swarmed by the small critters, can't defend himself from all of them and receives a sharp nip on the heel from one particularly nasty looking rat.

Straehan waits as the were-rats push forward, holding fire until the last possible second, hoping to catch one or two more enemies in the limited range of his latest discovery...

The gnome weaves an incantation at waist level. A spray of needle-like diamond fragments fan from his hand in a flat plane. They tear through rat and were-rat alike. Dire rodents squeal as the needles razor into their skulls...
A fallen chair is shredded into toothpicks...
A sound of a rainstorm plinking off a metal roof is heard as dozens of needles carom of Ushari's Ally...
And a slow were-rat feels slivers of diamond bite into its knee.

Only the were-rat on the edge of the effect escapes harm. When the last needle shatters against the floor and dissolves, two rats twitch in death, one staggers feebly and turns to run, and one were-rat snarls its pain.

It's clear the were-rats are adept at hunting intelligent game. They work as a coordinated unit, moving carefully, and then striking simultaneously with tooth and claw or blade.

Jayse sidesteps the necrotic claws of one beast only to walk into a lurker that appeared more interested in Strae - a clever feint. He barely sees the blur of its motion as it leaps at the tall monk, sinking long teeth into his neck and shaking its head. It works its teeth deeper into the wound, grazing an artery in the monk's neck. Blood pours from the ragged wound as Jayse elbows the creature away.

Jofram fends off a trio of dire rats only to be bowled over by the doorguard slinking up behind him. It tumbles on top of him. Bloody fangs, still bearing strips of Jayse's flesh, drive towards his face. More by reflex than thought, Jofram blocks with his gauntlet - catching in the creature's mouth. Its jaws clamp down like a vice, but the gauntlet cannot be bent or broken by mortal effort. Shaking its head loose, it satisfies itself by burying its claws in Jofram's belly. It's an excruciating wound delivered by razor-sharp claws. The valiant half-elf punches the beast in the snout and, with the gap provided, pulls a leg up and launches the foul creature away. Jofram rolls to his feet, favoring his torn abdomen. He sees two other were-rats eyeing him. The one laying on the floor, smashed down by Jayse's previous kick and stinking of fear, crawls away slowly - its lost its stomach for this fight. withdraw The other beast doesn't test the angry glare of the wounded ranger, keeping its distance.

Ushari can only watch as the remaining were-rat turns on Straehan. Mystical armor and shield only blunt the worst of the damage as the beast sinks both fangs and claws into the gnome's shoulders - taking away meat and cloth in its crimson-stained mouth.

In the background, outside of the immediate battle, Ushari sees a glittered were-rat stumble against a table, unable to clear the dust from its eyes. Beyond that, she spies the forgotten barmaid rising shakily to her feet, bleeding from multiple small cuts. She stares in wide-eyed horror at the battle happening mere feet away.

I don't believe i have any AoO's remaining. Used the last of them on the rats when they closed.

The shaken were-rat, safely out of Jayse's strike range, flees towards the stairs while the dust-blinded one continues to claw at its eyes. In a coordinated effort, the others beasts shift positions cautiously, slipping between their flanking enemies, establishing their own flanking positions, and striking at the monk, ranger, and sorcerer with tooth and claw.

Jayse fends off the raking attacks of one were-rat only to feel the teeth of another bite in his shoulder. The beast nearly tears his arm off but its claws can't penetrate the thickened sinews of his enlarged arm. That was nearly 3 hits with Precision damage.

Jofram dodges his opponent but catches a brutal claw across his face, a blow that nearly claims an eye.
