Capt. Sparrow |
Sparrow begins looking around for something club-like in the hall. a long stick maybe. failing that he picks up several throwing rocks.
i always forget to pack a light mace...
Newis Kher Rektor |
Newis also casts Detect Magic and focuses it for a few seconds, using his spellcraft knowledge to try and figure out what is on the body.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
He lifts his shield and his spear, knowing bones are never a good sign, and gives himself a low hum as he steps in 10 feet towards the body.
Unless it's radiating something terrifying of course, haha.
Jeffrey Warren |
Holding both his shield and sword tightly, Jeffrey's carefully moves into the new area. "Do you magic dudes notice anything to be off, besides this fellow being very much dead?"
GM ShadowLord |
Newis detects two auras, both faint. One is abjuration and the other is evocation.
As Jeffrey and Newis move into the room four piles of bones suddenly begin rise taking the form of a humanoid skeleton. Or perhaps that is a gillman skeleton? Either way, they grip rusted blades and are wearing old rusted chain armor. Turning towards Jeffrey and Newis they do not intend to be friendly.
Initiative: Nym, Iosbel, Jeffrey, Sparrow, Deliyah, Bones, Newis
Init: Bones: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Init: Sparrow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Init: Nym & Bill: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Init: Isobel: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Init: Deliyah: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Init: Newis: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Init: Jeffrey: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Nym the Wizard |
Nym moves up and shoots a ray of fire at the closest skeleton.
The orange one.
Using Versatile Evocation to change ray of frost to fire.
ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Newis Kher Rektor |
Newis is too busy staring at the body and poking at it with his shortspear that he barely notices the skeletons in time.
Thanks for the 1! Last on initiative, a bard/skald's best friend......
Capt. Sparrow |
oh i do have a light mace! wow i thought ahead more than I thought. i'll have taken that out so its in hand , since i didn't need to look for rocks or sticks.
Sparrow ignites a storm strike on his light mace and moves up.
it deals +1d4 electricity for 1 minute.
Isobel the Nymph |
With few options to directly damage the creatures, Isobel grimaces at the prospect of fighting the undead.
Tentatively, she moves into the room, then with a quick word summons grease under the feet of the skeletons.
I've place the template on the map. Save is DC 16 reflex.
Jeffrey Warren |
Jeffrey takes a step toward the northern skeletons, and swings his bastard sword at the red one. He figures he'll just swings hard, and then it may not matter that he's dealing slashing damage.
Bastard sword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Confirm crit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Deliyah |
Deliyah whips forwards, wishing she had something a little less pointy to hit them with Rapier: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 3 - 1 = 19 dmg: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 1 = 8 deciding to grasp the flimsy blade with two hands and swing it as hard as she can (-1 for 2-hands with buckler, +1 dmg for 2-hand strike - should be allowed with a Rapier as it's not a light weapon, though it's slightly dodgy ground).
GM ShadowLord |
Skeletons swing at Deliyah and Jeffrey with their blades, both missing wildly. The fallen skeleton stands up, leaving its sword on the ground. It begins to limp unnaturally towards the group, holding out its razor sharp claws.
1d20 ⇒ 3
1d20 ⇒ 6
1d20 ⇒ 14
Newis is up and then the rest of the party.
Newis Kher Rektor |
Bones, bones, there's nothing to fear
Newis will save you with his mighty spear!
Standard Action: Newis begins singing his Enhanced Weapons song; a soft glow radiating from everyone's weapons and ammunition while he sings. (+1 Enhancement Bonus to weapons of allies within 60 ft.)
Move Action: Staying right where I am, with shield and shortspear in hand.
Capt. Sparrow |
i bash at the thing, with a little bit of finesse.
light mace: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d6 + 1d4 ⇒ (5) + (1) = 6 swing and a miss.
Jeffrey Warren |
His strategy proven to be correct, Jeffrey swings his sword at the orange skeleton.
Bastard sword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
"I can handle this one! Focus on the others first. I can't reach those anyway, with all you in between."
GM ShadowLord |
After Jeffrey misses the skeleton next to him sees a softer target in Nym. He takes a step towards him and swings his broken scimitar down into his chest. 5 Damage
The skeleton east of Deliyah swings and misses at her.
The skeleton on the ground in the grease reaches out with its claws and rakes the razor sharp bones across Isobel's legs, drawing blood. 4 Damage.
Newis is up and then the party.
Blue: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Blue: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Orange: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Purple: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 2 - 4 = 14
Blue: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Purple: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 2 - 4 = -1
Newis Kher Rektor |
Newis stops singing, but hums the rest of the lyrics (Lingering Performance, everyone keeps their +1 Enhancement Bonus for this round and next round) as he takes his spear and stabs at the one on the ground.
Shortspear Hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Not sure if he's prone, but if bonuses add up and I do hit......
Potential Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Nym the Wizard |
Nym stumbles away from his attacker and with determination he fights through the pain to cast another spell.
Nym sends out another thin stream of fire.
ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 - 4 = 10
damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Capt. Sparrow |
the purple one is prone?
light mace: 1d20 + 3 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 4 + 1 = 241d6 + 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + (3) + 1 = 7
sparrow whips his mace down in a clean arc, striking a weak point in the skull and smashing the prone skeleton's head open, then moves over to a better position.
if one of them is still standing next round i can five ft step to either of them and attack.
GM ShadowLord |
As Deliyah turns her back and moves away the skeleton on grease takes a swing at her, but acts too late and misses her.
Deliyah steps up to the northern skeleton and times her swing expertly, striking just perfectly to shatter the skeleton. It falls to the ground in dozens of unmoving pieces.
Orange is down, only blue remains.
1d20 ⇒ 12
Jeffrey Warren |
Jeffrey moves over to the remaining skeleton, and swings his bastard sword it it.
Bastard sword, Inspired: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 1 = 25 Damage, Inspired: 1d10 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
He hits, but his tactic of hitting hard doesn't work as well as with the first skeleton.
Newis Kher Rektor |
I don't know where the initiative tracker is at, but I saw skeletons attack so I think I'm up now.
Newis moves around behind Jeffrey and comes up on the other side, stabbing his spear at the skeleton while he continues to hum. (Don't forget your +1 Enhancement Bonus to your weapons for this round. I think a few people don't have it added to their attack/damage.)
Spear Attack!: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
And he whiffs the skeleton, stabbing right between it's rib cages and hitting only air.
Jeffrey Warren |
During the last round the effects from Newis' performance linger, Jeffrey once again swings his sword at the skeleton.
Bastard sword, Inspired: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 1 = 21 Damage, Inspired: 1d10 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 = 8
GM ShadowLord |
Let me get a round of Perception checks please.
Despite using a sub-optimal weapon for the job, Jeffrey destroys the last skeleton.
With the party no longer in immediate danger they set out searching the small cave. You discover that the skeletons were all made from the remains of gillmen. The corpse they stood over is different. Bearing short fangs, you suspect he is a dhampir, and a note on his corpse details plans to start an army of undead made from the “fish people” who have been frequenting this cave. He also carries a +1 longsword and a pearl of power (1st level), both of which are mentioned in his notes as powerful magic items. Apparently his creations had turned on him despite his protective gear.
Jeffrey Warren |
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
"Took longer than I expected!" Jeffrey declares while staring at his feet.
Nym the Wizard |
Nym sits on the ground hard.
"I need medical attention."
As he bleeds on himself he looks around the room.
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Bill wanders around the room looking for bugs to snack on.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Newis Kher Rektor |
Newis, seeing his Wizard friend hurt from the fight, gets the Wand from the backpack and goes over to him with a smile, bopping him on the head which oddly feels good....
Wand power!: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Nym the Wizard |
"Thank you so much! I feel much better!"
Nym stands up and shakes Newis's hand enthusiastically.
"While Bill was looking for his lunch he found a secret passage."
Nym points at the northern wall.
Bill flexes his tiny biceps.
Looking at the note "I am not sure creating an army from a small group of pilgrims would have been a very good plan. With poor leadership like that its no wonder that his troops rose against him. Or perhaps the gillman where just waiting for the right moment to seek there revenge."
Nym picks up the pearl of power. "If there are no objections I would like to use this item. It would double my offensive capabilities. If anyone is trained in the use of a longsword I suggest you use it. Its ability to cut through enemy defenses could be valuable."
Jeffrey Warren |
"I prefer to use my own sword, unless we encounter something magic-ish."
When Nym mentions a secret passage, Jeffrey takes a second look at the northern wall. "I don't see it, but okay. Let's check out what's behind that passage."
Newis Kher Rektor |
"Hmmm, while I prefer my spear..... I can't turn down magic." Newis walks over to grab the sword and swing it a few times, nodding at its usefulness as he put his masterwork shortspear on his back, crossed over his other regular shortspear in an X pattern, while he straps the sheath of the longsword on to his waist.
The heroes battled through the horde, a skeleton brigade.
And from the evil spawned a sword, I named the Singing Blade!
But that was nothing, far too easy, definitely not the worst.
But secret tunnel, that's intriguing, who will enter first?
Newis half-mindedly began whistling as he took out his new sword and began swinging it around again, walking with the rest into the secret passage as he stopped occasionally to take "heroic" poses with his new magical weapon.
