Miro looks to the farmer, the man's intentions very clear. "Stop!" He shouts, holding up his hand in a restraining motion.

"We believe the collar to be the foul magic, and this poor creature was held spellbound by it. Allow us some time with it before we make judgment, I beg you."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

The farmer halts at Miro's plea. "I'm leaving this to you, young Miro. If this beast does further harm, I will hold you responsible."

The man then finds a broom and begins to clean up the broken window detritus. As the broken glass is swept into a pile, the archon stands up with as much dignity as she can muster, and walks into the dining room.
"Allow me to apologize for the damage caused by my actions. Events transpired beyond my reckoning and control, but I apologize nonetheless. Please, step aside for a moment."

She begins casting a magic spell over the area by uttering cryptic phrases and making a spidery gesture with one hand. The snapped wooden frame and the shards of broken glass fly back together and mend themselves before your eyes. In the span of seconds, the large dining room window has been completely repaired.

The farmer looks astonished, but thankful. The family eventually comes downstairs again, looking sheepish. Everyone chips in to clean up the spilled food and drink.

Feel free to continue with any questions and/or discussions. When the talking is completed, everyone may rest up. The night will pass uneventfully.

"We would certainly heal you if there were resources available, but well" - he scratches his purple neck - "it was a tough day."

The barbarian extends a hand to the archon. "Can you show me what you was about to show the dwarf? I'd like to know what are hamatulas and barbazus, if you can do that. Also, how did you get here from Mylosis?"

"And how do we freaking destroy that collar?" If no one knows he will try to use his Earthbreaker, wasting one or two rounds of fury at the try.

Gromff tenses both times as the "Archon" casts her spells but doesn't act on it. This day never seemed to end and his nerves were fraying. He wished he was back home amongst his kin. People he new and understood. Then again, it was because of thoughts like that that his kin were currently on the defensive from devil incursion. All fronts were being battered at and they wouldn't serve more than a few more years without help. "Hang on," he says.

If at least evil outsiders aren't healed by positive energy then I can use that to my advantage.

Gromff focuses on a particularly garish bruise on the Archons body and taps into what is left of his healing magic. A wave of energy washes over them, healing all within range.

"I am pleased to meet you all. I am called Zelesti."

As Catcher's magic servant tends to the mess, the family retires one by one to their bedrooms. Before long the house is quiet.

Tessandriel takes her leave and begins walking the perimeter of the farm, in search of fresh air and fresh perspective.

To Roland the archon says, "Take my hand, strong warrior. Resist the urge to turn your thoughts away."

Roland:
As Roland takes the angel's hand, he embarks on a journey through the archon's mind; a journey through her memories. A whirring jumble of disjointed images slows down and coalesces into a series of events.

You see this angel in beautiful silvered armor, holding her greatsword aloft, standing in what could only be Heaven. At her sides are her men-- fellow hound archons with similar armor and great-weapons. From their serene plane of lush grasslands, fluffy clouds and sunshine, they step through a stone gateway, glowing runes adorning its archway. Out they pop onto a starkly different scene; they land heavily onto a field of burnt grass and bone fragments, surrounded by hamatulas and barbazus, all looking hungry for blood and ready to kill. A brief combat ensues, and the small unit of angels is slaughtered, leaving only the archon captain alive. She transforms into the over-sized canine, but is subdued in short order.

The next images are a confusing mishmash of basements, chains, dungeons, and copious amounts of torture. Shortly thereafter Roland is remembering through the angel's perspective, and can literally smell Chezarion in the room above. The smell of the elf, and more pointedly--the smell of familiar heavenly steel grows fainter, driving the beast into a frenzy. She thrashes wildly, breaking the iron chain holding her to the wall, then she bursts through the wooden false-floor plank.
Roland then bites out the throat of "Tricky Dick", bursts out the smithy door, and then follows the scent trail of the party.
The rest is a red-tinged jumble of images showing frightened townsfolk, countryside landmarks, and finally the combat from which she was freed from the cursed collar.

"How do you destroy it? The two of you already damaged the locking mechanism, so I imagine further blunt force ought to work. I don't know for certain, but I would be happy to help."

Gromff's healing wave washes over everyone, visibly healing the archon and Roland both. "Thank you kind priest." She looks to the holy symbol worn by the dwarf. "I had the pleasure of being in Moradin's presence many centuries ago. Your blessing is welcomed, and it is an honor to feel his light once again."

Roland eyes suddenly pop open when the vision is over. "Holy s&$&! That devil in town was a Barbazu!" The breastplate I'm using is not hers, right?"

Then he gets more serious and sad. "I'm sorry for your loss, Zelesti. Hey folks, I've got good news and bad news. Bad news is, Tricky Dick is dead. Good news is also that he is dead, so the enemy has gotten almost zero info on us."

If anyone asks what happened in the vision, Roland explains it so everyone can read the spoiler above ^_^ It was meant to be read, right?

Then he worries about destroying the collar with his earthbreaker, and searches a shovel so he could bury the diabolic remains. Last, he will rest in the barn, as agreed.

"However did you guess?" He chuckles, shrugging his shoulders. "I guess I got tired of the apathy of my family and friends towards the war going on in the north. Couldn't stand the thought of all those brave men and women doing their part to stem the forces of the underworld while I reaped the fruits of their labor, living a life of peace and being without concern while they fought and died on my behalf. So I was heading towards where the fighting was going on. While my talents do not lay in the martial realm, I can certainly stir the blood with my song, and have a bit of magic at my disposal, as well."

When Gromff hears that the Archon has actually met Moradin himself the dwarf is no longer able to function. On the one hand he wants to believe her, yet on the other they just met and can't really trust her yet. The only words he can get out is, "Bless me beard."

In the morning, when he goes to pray for spells, he is pleasantly surprised to see her also praying. He gets down on his knees next to her and silently chants to Soul Forger, creator of the dwarves eons ago. They are quiet for a long moment, until he can no longer hold it in. "So what's he like?"

Switched some spells around but I wanted some input. Magic Weapon or Weapons Against Evil. The first is 1min per level and applies to damage. The other is 1round per level but bypasses most DR we have seen. Nevermind, just looked at Weapons Against Evil again and saw it was one weapon per level as well. Two people can bypass DR (as long as it is 5 or less). That probably means Tess and Roland are getting the boost.

"Well, it had just finished a light shower one afternoon, and the sun was hanging low in the sky, but shining with that brightness it only gets when it peeks out from under the thunderheads. A lovely rainbow appeared, and the end seemed near to me." He chuckles, shrugging his slender shoulders.

"I was by myself, and was amusing myself when I went off in search of the end. Soon, I heard running water and logic added to my course, since my waterskin was soon to run dry. The rainbow led me to a small waterfall that fed into a pond. From behind the falling water I could see a glint, a glint only made possible by the dropping sun as it made its way down towards the tree tops. I reached back there, and sure enough, I found this ring. A quick inspection determined it was magical, and, feeling that this was the work of fate, I slipped it on."

The Halfling grins, gesturing towards the others' rings. "And now I find myself in the company of others who bear similar rings. An intriguing tale, no?"

Tessandriel spent the early morning in the grove of trees near the farm. It was most relaxing to be out in the place she felt most comfortable in. After a time, she makes her way back to the house.

She spies Gromff talking to Zelesti as she comes into the clearing. Smiling, she makes her way over to the house while waving as she passes the duo.

Stepping inside, she finds Roland and Miro conversing.

"Hello there little one. Wait, what do I call Gromff now? You are shorter than even he is! And you don't look the type to react to a height joke. Hmm, I guess I have to find a new one for him."

She sniffs the air.

"Is that breakfast I smell? I'm famished."

Tessandriel's demeanor is light this morning. She looks unbothered by the cold air she just stepped in from.

Tessandriel is quite correct in her assessment, as Miro laughs at her jest. "Greetings to you as well, my lady. Tis a blessing, truly. When you are height challenged, as I am, you tend to get overlooked in favor of more formidable looking targets."

He grins conspiratorially at the half-elf as she speaks of the dwarf. "Well, you could always start calling him 'she' and claim you can't tell the difference."

"Yes, they have quite an offering up there, if you are interested. Best hurry, before even the scraps are gone."

So, if you're looking for the enemy, perhaps you should travel with us. Don't you think Tess? We could use someone to stir the blood of old Gromff."

Then he worries about the sun rising. "I would guess the family would offer us some breakfast, but I think we should get moving. By now they will have enough time to figure a part of what happened, and they will be after us, the Archon or Walker. The longer we stay here, the better the chance they find us. "Speaking of dragons, have you all heard the tale of The Sleeping Dragon? Supposedly it was a green dragon that grew fond of the flesh of children. I always thought it was just another story, until I heard you all talking yesterday." Even though he is serious, Miro can not help himself and gets into his story as though he is entertaining a crowd.

"The villagers employed an alchemist to make a powerful sleeping potion, and put it inside of a pig. They offered the pig to the dragon as tribute, and when the dragon fell asleep, they built a dome over the beast. As time passed, nature ran its course and grass and soil covered the dome, forming a hill."

He takes a breath as he finishes. "The similarities are quite profound."

The farming family offers a breakfast to you all of hamsteaks, potatoes and onions, and hot tea. They offer rations to you. Book price, buy any/all you wish.
They once again plead for their little Nancy's life and solicit your aid in the return of the stolen children.

Zelesti seems keen on this discussion, "No where have I to go. My unit, gone. My goal, unknown. I will look into this for you, good free folk. I hope my new friends will also, but I know they have business to attend to."

The entire morning Aersensi and Zelesti seem to have a constant conversation and fits of giggles. They really have taken a liking to one another. Walker is in typical nonchalance, but shares regular warm smiles.

"So, are you really going to let Zelesti go alone in a mission through enemy territory, where aside from already having an ally on it, there's also the fact that she can be captured and tortured again, much easier than us since she cannot pass as a human?" He crosses his arms, waiting for a decision since you are the one who prevented him from putting the cards on the table. "She could help us to unravel Walker's mind. Catcher, can I assume you relinquished Zelesti's sword? :) I reread the posts and I don't see any specific mention of it.

Zelesti and Aersensi continue their private talks and smiles. The farmers recommend you take food with you, as food is quite scarce in some parts of the land due to the wavering stability of the food sources in this war torn land. If you're buying rations, please deduct the cost and add them to the group loot or your individual equipment sheets.
More than once you find that Walker has wandered off on his own, intent on his next random destination.

A tidbit of a conversation can be overheard from the angel and the child, as the archon says "Please tell me again, what is your name?"
The child responds cheerfully, "Aersensi, at your service!"
The archon scratches her chin with her hind leg...just kidding...."This name, I know this name, though I cannot quite place where..." Suddenly the angel gets a look of profound alarm on her face. She kneels down and grabs Aersensi by the shoulders to get a proper head-on look at her. Zelesti waves her hand over the child mimicing detect magic in a spell-like ability, then sits back on her haunches, limply. Her eyes tell of grave concern.

She stands up and moves back to the group. The angel says quietly, "This child, is no child. I must depart immediately with her in my custody. She must not remain here... I dare not discuss this further."
She looks around at your packs sitting on the ground, then says "By chance do any of you have spare armor? Mine was taken, and I would rather go forth with more than my skin to deflect the blows of evil."

Roland takes a look at the wandering Walker. The name suited him, and the barbarian wondered if the man had some actual purpose in his wanderings. Go figure...

Precisely what I wanted to speak with her.
The barbarian asks Gromff to retrieve his Scale Mail from the evil bag of holding, and he just holds it under one arm, waiting for the main subject to get resolved before handing it to the Archon. "Yeah, I do have this Scale Mail that should suits you. But although an angel you may be, Aerseni is not going anywhere without you first explaining what is happening. We saved the girl by risking our lives, and there's definitely something wrong with her. You're in no shape to protect yourself and the girl alone, so, if she must be taken somewhere, we want to know why, if we're not going with you." He crosses his arms and waits for an answer, determined not to stay without an answer, and fearless of how the Archon may take his demand.

I actually have the pouch since it is holding the group loot. I forgot about the armor until the DM brought it up. Also this is how I picture Zelesti. Cheadle from Hunter X Hunter.

Gromff, being slightly wiser than the barbarian, picks up on the seriousness of the conversation. He too had his suspicions that the little girl was not as she appeared but he couldn't think of what she might be. Apparently Zelesti could. "Just go outside ye dolt, this is probably important."

He then points at Zelesti "And she ain't goin nowhere till ye explain."

Miro just listens intently. Not stated, but he agreed with both the barbarian and the dwarf. Explanations were surely warranted.

"Excuse me?" Tessandriel asks with incredulity. "You wish to take the child elsewhere and refuse to tell us why? Thanks but no. Not happening. I'm with Gromff on this one, we are going to get some answers." she responds resolutely.

"I've had enough of being told that I have to take someone's word without question. No more. This is important and after all we have been through we deserve to know why."

The angel takes great offense at this statement. This may be my fault for not clearly explaining that after her healing this morning, she is looking ship-shape, and is no longer bruised and abused. Apologies to you Roland, if you assumed she was still in a weakened state. The following is just RP fun. A flash of zealous anger and light flashes in her canine eyes--the light flashes down her body, up the length of her arm and all the way to the tip of her greatsword. "You dare question my word, and my abilities? This child must never fall into enemy hands. Her identity, if discovered would result in eternal darkness for the mortal realm. The balance of power would never shift again."

She looks around to the group, indignant, "I cannot, I must not reveal too much. It could spell the end of us all." The angel sees the party resolutely in phalanx formation against the girl's departure without more specific information, and begins to growl in frustration. The air around you heats up significantly from her anger.

"My saviors you are. Good folk I believe you to be, but know you well enough to unload this burden--I do not. I will however speak to the priest. His God is unwavering in his goodness, and I have faith in the dwarf's vigilance. Come with me Gromff. Let us walk."

Catcher was unable to decide what to do when the discussion began.
She knew Aerseni was not a normal child, and she already knew that the future of this whole affair could be affected by the child, however... at the angels outburst, Catcher is unable to remain outside of the decision.

The angel says "You dare question my word, and my abilities?"

Catcher says "I can't answer for Roland, but yeah I do. Not your word, mind you, I don't know you or have means to prove you are what you claim to be." she walks closer to Aeserni "But you are asking us, to let this child, that can decide the fate of this entire conflict, in the hands of someone that already proved and tasted failure. " she look around unconcerned with the others and continue "I don't know what god you serve. Nor I particularly care. But the way I see it, you were already tested. Unless you plan to tell me your god would send you and your brothers into a suicide mission. And by that testing, it was already decided you failed. Tell me again, how many brothers you lost to the devils? How much time was you tortured by them? Now, you want me to leave Aerseni with you, someone that is proven to have failed, and that may very well fail again, or worse, who is to say that the enemy is not using you? Making you believe you were able to escape?" anger rose into her face as she continues "And now, you already given this family your word that you would look up for their missing children. Do you plan to break it? How am I supposed to trust you, and blindly let you take her" she says pointing to the elf child "to any unknown future you says it's best for everyone, and that you refuse to say. I say to you. Go, your mission is not this one. Don't stick your pawns in things that don't concern you. Go seek redemption for your failures somewhere else. "

Roland takes a stealthy step closer to Catcher, in case the hound goes berserker. "Agreed. I also question your abilities, for the same reasons. And yes, I question your word because... how was that again... know you well enough, I do not! But if that is a problem you can walk with us for a couple days while we continue on our mission on the way to... oh wait, know you well enough to unload this burden, I do not. Gromff is a free dwarf and he can talk with you if he wants, but his word is not law here."

"Perhaps it might be wise to let Gromff speak with Zelesti before we proceed any further. I am sure the good dwarf would not lead us astray on this matter." Miro speaks calmly both to both sides as tensions rise. He is relatively sure of the 'goodness'of this Archon, but like his fellows is unsure of the angelic being's capabilities.

"Maybe while you two speak the rest of us can come up with a compromise that is amenable to all parties, eh?" Miro gives the canine visage a winning smile.

While the others argue Gromff reaches for his holy symbol and says a little prayer, mostly for patience. Then a giant sheet of water, as cold as he can make it, soaks the three most heated individuals, Zelesti, Catcher and Roland. "Can it. The lot o ye. This is neither the place nor the method to have this...conversation," he says emphasizing the last word.

He then rounds on the hound Archon with almost the same fury as her. "You. This is not how ye ask fer help. And don't ye doubt that is exactly what yer doing."

He then rounds on the others, especially Catcher. "And that ain't how ye talk to another person, let alone a servant o the gods."

"I believe we are all on the same side even if the way we do things may be different. And if we cannae work together we got no hope fightin the devils. I don't think I need to remind any o ye that they are currently rolling over everythin in there path like an angry bunch o trolls. We need every bit o help we can get and every bit o knowledge available ifn we're going to serve."

He then goes back and forth, staring down both parties until they seem calmer and then turns to Zelesti. "If ye got somethin to say then yer going to say to all of us. I ain't got no say over the others so its got to be a group decision. But not here."

Turning to Tess, "Anywhere quiet we can go to nearby to talk?"

Although he takes a bath in the middle of the place, Roland only closes his eyes while the water slides through, and does not object nor changes his position, remaining at Catcher's side with his arms crossed. Then when the dwarf mentions to talk in another place he agrees, moving outside the house. "Now that's a good idea."

”Okay! Okay dad!” she says sarcastically ”I know I’ve not bathed in the last days, but you could at least made it a bit warm.” I nominate now: Tessa, Gromff and Miro for the Ice Bucket Challenge! she complains ”And don’t you tell me I’m wrong. I may have been harsh, however, I’m not the one willing to break my word, for reasons that I will not share with anyone else.”

Miro nods at the mention of a change in venue, not that his opinion seems to matter at the moment. Perhaps in transit the ice water will cool the hotheads and allow for a more calm approach to things. One thing was certain, the Archon definitely owed a better explanation.

For a tense moment, the archon appears as if she will spring to attack in response to Catcher's harshness. When the dwarf's cold water splashed them all, it broke the tension for a few moments. The archon comically shook her entire body to rid herself of the wetness, just like a typical dog would after stepping out of river. The angel and the party walk outside the residence and out into the cold snowy morning.

Zelesti opens her mouth to speak, a cold look in her eye, but is cutoff by the small yet commanding voice of Walker, who says "It is quite simple really. The child is one of the three Harbingers. She is destined to die, so that the world may live."

The angel's jaw drops agape at the blatant proclamation.

The Harbingers are part of a well known religious legend about the end-times. What is not well known is that they are fallen angels who committed crimes against heaven and walk Atma as mortals. They are destined to save the world with their sacrifice. Their identities are yet unknown even to prophets and priests. Their final act is to die at an ancient temple to the Old Gods, where their spirit energy will empower a set of ancient magical keystones. These keystones are said unseal chamber which holds the mysteries of creation itself, and the key to victory.
