Zandu keeps his cool as the snake shoots up through them (Snakes that can move through ice and people and who knows what else, things are never boring in the Society...). He watches Robyyn tear off across the ice and gives a small shake of the head before turning to Menarul. "It was already below the ice when we got down here. Did you not see it swimming around down there?"

The oracle's warnings seemed to have prepared most of you for what may come, and only Robyyn is caught off guard by the leviathan. Though he takes off at a full sprint in fear of the best, he somehow manages not to fall in the darkness. As you make your way down to the bottom, you catch glimpses of shadowy figures moving through the ice, though you quickly put it all behind you.Eventually, the frozen tunnels level off, causing the melting water to accumulate in bone-chilling pools. Droplets run down the thawing walls with supernatural purpose, whittling away relief carvings of an enormous dragon devouring entire cities.

The hallways here are about forty feet tall, and there are several pools of water, 3-5 feet deep.

Pools of water will be marked on the map with a blue outline. They require a DC 10 swim check to traverse. If you could please place yourselves on the map in the order you would like to proceed.

After running a short way along the ice, Robyyn is able to calm down. Looking back at the party sheepishly, he returns, a little unnerved but accepting that there never was a true threat.

At Zandu's words, Menarul realizes it probably wasn't Kronas. "Ah, sorry Kronas, I didn't mean to incorrectly accuse you of that. I've encountered a haunt before and they really can surprise you sometimes. Maybe I shouldn't be taking notes down here, if things like that are going to jump out at us."

Menarul falls into line near the head of the party and starts looking around at all the interesting designs on the walls and trying to ignore the shadowy figures to the best of his ability.

He starts up a conversation with Kronas and anyone else who will listens about the time he first encountered a haunt and the rest of the experiences he had there. He tries to make it interesting but comes off as more of a dry chronicle then an engaging story.

Menarul would also like to be near the front to hopefully get a bomb or shot in before we inevitably in up in melee. I've moved Kronas and him up towards the front of the group but Menarul can take third if needed.

Hear the noises around the corner, and loathe to get wet right before a possile fight, Menarul tries to leap across the water towards the other side. Taking advantage of the weakened gravity, he bunches his legs and takes off from the ground.

Rolls, actions and a question:

Menarul is taking a move to jump across the water, and hopefully not shooting for the same square as Kronas. Green line shows start and intended end point. If for whatever reason he can`t take the jump, he'll just swim. His modifiers for both skills are the same.
Acrobatics, untrained ACP: 1d20 ⇒ 10
I don`t tink he made it... but a swim wouldn`t have gotten him there in time either, so it's moot.

“We’ve discovered a path to the Vault Entrance!” Sorrina Westyr’s image appears drenched but defiant, in the midst of pouring heavy rain. Ignoring the water sleeting off her, the Master of Spells points with her wand as she illuminates the asteroid map behind her. “Reports from those traveling through the Ice Reservoir indicate that most of the enemies in that region have been mopped up, though a few scattered groups may still be dealing with ongoing fights.” She taps the map. “We’ve discovered an entrance to the Vault through this area. If you’re nearby, proceed here as fast as you can!”

Then a serious expression crosses her face. “Our efforts have not gone without notice. My divinations indicate that Kelizandri, the Brackish Emperor himself, is displeased and wreaking havoc. Beware of flash floods and rain! Take care, Pathfinders!”

AREA E: The Ice Reservoir, is claimed and free for travel! GMs, there is a Water Event happening now!

Yes, you all made the jump. Gravity is 1/5 normal so you jump 5 times as far. Even without a running start, a DC 10 Acrobatics check means you can long jump 25 feet.

As for the Initiative bonus, I was going to add it once I started the combat, you all would have been going first. But....

This combat has no impact on anything really. And because so many table chose the water route, we are racking up successes really fast. I'm going to push us past this encounter and on to the next one, even though this whole area is claimed now. It actually has story implications and can still aid in future events.

Before you can further investigate the noises ahead, you receive the latest news from the Venture Captain. You aren't able to even process what this means before water starts rushing into the tunnels with force. Somehow, Kronas simply rides the wave, giggling with joy and is unharmed, while the others are tossed about. Whatever creatures were lurking ahead are clearly washed away as well.

Bull Rush vs Lutorinus: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 231d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Everyone besides Kronas takes the indicated damage and is knocked prone. DC 11 Reflex save for half and to negate the prone.

Once the rush of water slows and starts to drain out of the area, you regain your composure and venture forwards. Several tunnels lead into an expansive ice cavern, in which rests an enormous block of ice bound in metal chains that hang from the icicle-covered ceiling. Hundreds of figures are flash-frozen within, caught in a moment of horror and agony. At the front of the inanimate crowd stands a regally clad giant who stares ahead with defiance.

Based on what you learned from the rescued elemental earlier, this must be the shahzada, Zhaleh Setat.

Lutorinus' eyes grow wide as the wave comes barreling through the tunnels. As the wave crashes into him, he is able to angle himself against the wall to help negate some of the force. Still on his feet, he quickly pulls out the wand that was given to them and begins patching up his party members. Flash floods indeed, this place is even less safe than before. Now that you see Zhaleh Setat before you, Lutorinus recalls a few more details about her. The shahzada is a marid of high nobility. Marids are genies from the Plane of Water. The most powerful of all the genie races, they are said to possess the strength of the ocean’s currents and teeth made of pearl. A marid stands about 16 feet tall and weighs nearly 2,500 pounds, and can live for thousands of years.

The marids are perhaps the most unpredictable and capricious of the genies, a quality that the others (particularly shaitans) find to be both aggravating and embarrassing to the entire genie culture.

How do you plan to proceed from here? Basically there's a giant block of ice chained to the ceiling, 70 feet above, with Zhaleh and a bunch of followers frozen inside.

Menarul takes his leap with a smile on his face as he starts to come down, glad to have successfully avoided the water. Just before he lands, though, a giant wave rushes out of nowhere and soaks him anyways. Initially caught off guard, he quickly reacts and grabs the edge of the wall next to him, protecting most of the vials and bottles on the front of his brace but getting somewhat battered in the process. "Damn it, I was trying to avoid getting wet, now it'll take ages for me to dry out. A 'secured area' my arse." "Hey, Lutorinus, mind if I get a charge of that wand?"

As they move on Menarul starts checking his gear, armor, and weapons. Double checking that nothing was seriously damaged or water logged in the wave. He then moves on to his alchemical concoctions, retaking each bottle out separately and making sure there are no cracks or, worse, water penetration. While intent on searching, he notices everyone stopping, and looks up himself. His eyes go wide as he sees the giant ice block in front of him, and stay wide as her listens to Lutorinus' explanation.

"This probably goes without saying but we need to get them out of there. Any suggestions? I have a couple of bombs; an acid; alchemist's fire; liquid ice, though that may not help; a..." Menarul then goes on to list anything he has that might break the genie free.

Robyyn barely heard the cry of alarm at possible threats in the caverns when the incoming wave washed him off his feet. Jostled about in the water, something related to his elemental nature--or his witches affinity for flight--must have helped keep him upright and orient him in the flow. He comes to a rest sure and firm on his feet with only a minor scrape from the wall.

He declines any healing. "It's really not more than a scratch. I'm fine." But he assists others get back to their feet and get their own healing as much as he can.

The sight of the army--and the genie--enthralls Robyyn. He's nearly unresponsive as he slowly moves closer to get the best view he can. That's the genie! But... it's not djinn. Are the chains secured to the ice or just wrapped around it? Wondering if I could use basic telekinesis to move the chains so they would no longer hold up the ice.

They are secured to it. This may be a bit difficult at this tier so I'm very open to creative solutions. You can all tell that the warming temperature has already started melting the ice.

Menarul spends a long time staring at the huge block and thinking. He starts to pace back and forth and trying to get various different vantage points on the block. After a near full minute of this he stops, a flash of inspiration clear from his face. He rushes back to the rest of the group, drawing a flask from his bandolier. He calls out to Robyyn first. "We obviously need to get a heat source either on or around the ice block, one that could affect the chains or ice as a whole would be great but is doubt any of use have those capabilities. But releasing an alchemist's fire up there might help speed things up. First, Robyyn your bat flew up there, was there any space for a fire?"

Next he turns to Zandu, "I know you can throw things with your mind but can you do fine detail work as well? Could you set up a group of torches up there and light them with an alchemist's fire?" Finally he gives the rest of the group an appraising look. "If we have enough torches we should be able to light a group up top and a group at the bottom. Assuming Zandu and maybe Robyyn can set up the bonfire on top of the block we should endeavor to set up one down here. Now the real question is, 'How many torches do we have?'"

"Umm, I don't have any torches either..." Kronas points apologetically at the wisps of dancing lights circling his head "I have loads and loads of crossbow bolts though!" he adds, somewhat hopefully "What if we found a way to set them on fire? We could cover the cube in loads of mini torches like a huge flaming pin cushion!" He sets down his pack and starts rummaging through it for anything useful.
_______
I like the idea, but with the sorts of characters in this party (low strength), I don't think we'll find many torches among us. Would it be possible to make mini torches by tearing off some sleeves or ripping up cloaks and covering them in flammable liquid before wrapping them around arrows?

A burning sensation moves up Lutorinus' chest as Ayrii crawls out of Robyyn's hair. WHAT IN THE NAME OF HELL IS THE MEANING OF THAT? I have done my share of unscrupulous work, but it was all out of necessity, to rip myself out of the gutter's of Elidir. THAT THING is a choice. I draw the line here. The Venture Captains will be hearing about this in my report.

Fortunately, Menarul's rambling pulls him out of his own head.
Nothing of wood here, except for that little crossbow I carry around for show... He holds his crossbow up between two fingers, as though it were someone's dirty underwear.

"This is of trivial use to me. Should burn like anything else. Zandu, how quickly could you place a stack of items? We could make a stack of the lot, secure it with rope, light it down here, and then place it," he suggests. This is, of course, the royal we. I will have nothing to do with this sort of barbaric work. Where is the subtlety? The finesse?

"it'll take me about..." he pauses, studying the distance, "20 seconds, give or take, to get it up there. Not sure how quickly the fuel will get burnt up. The stack doesn't even need to be bound, though - I can scoop it all up together. "

I can move stuff at up to medium range at 30ft per round. 70ft high, plus the height of the block, so assume three rounds, or about 18 seconds. I can form essentially a bowl of force that can hold up to 5lbs of material. I don't have anything flammable to contribute, though.

Robyyn combs his fingers through the long, grey hair at the back of his head, emerging with Ayrii yet again clinging to a finger, upside down. He closes his eyes briefly; when he opens them appear slightly clouded. His vision doesn't seem to be impaired by the obscuration; his eyes dart around normally as he draws Ayrii up nearer his face. He opens his mouth gently, and his throat begins constricting in a staccato sequence.

"... ... ..."

No sound emerges, but something has clearly passed between the two, as they appear to be nodding towards each other.

Robyyn holds his hand out for the alchemist's fire. I guess I'm assuming someone has this? When handed it, he brings it up next to the finger Ayrii is perched from; the bat shuffles over to the vial.

Ayrii unfurls his wings, flapping them slowly at first--to get his bearings--then beating a couple powerful strokes to lift the vial away from Robyyn's grip. He circles his witch's head twice, moving not quite as fast as before.

Appearing comfortable with the flask in his grasp, Ayrii once again returns to Robyyn's outstretched hand, allowing the witch to pluck the flask out of the air. Ayrii gently hangs from the flask, waiting to see the kindling begin to rise to the top of the ice.

Menarul gives a frown at the bleak comments of not having any torches, but gives a few accepting nods as Kronas and then both Zandu and Robyyn suggest crossbow bolts. Slowly tapping the flask in his hand against his leg he starts doing a mental calculation of how hot and how long a typical crossbow volt would burn. "Those could work, and I have plenty of arrows I don't need as well. I bought a set earlier that is much more durable. If we use the bolts on the top and the arrows on the bottom, we could help speed along the melting."

He then lightly toss the flask to Robyyn and sets to work collecting bolts. "Kronas, Lutorinus and Artus, would you mind helping me in taking these arrow and bolt heads off of all of the ammunition? Not having a metal head on these will make it burn quicker, and lighter for Zandu." He then starts to work, giving the cap-less bolts to Zandu and setting the head-less arrows to one side.

The ingenuity of the Pathfinders shines brightly, as they gather up piles of flammable materials, before Zandu works his magic and lefts it all deftly onto the giant ice cube. Robyyn then puts his bat to work, even if it does make Lutorinus uncomfortable in the process. Once the alchemists fire is dropped onto the pile, it quickly ignites, and helps to speed up the melting of the ice. A few elementals near the edge of the cube begin to thaw out first, and after a moment of confusion, realize what has happened and get to work chipping more ice off. Eventually the entire cube is swarming with various elementals and mephits, until Zahleh herself awakens. She concentrates a moment and suddenly pushes outwards, shattering whatever ice remains. She steps forward and opens her eyes.

She speaks in a soft voice, yet it is loud enough to send tremors through the cave. "Oh? Humans? Elves? Gnomes? What are you doing here? Why do you have some sort of devil with you? What is your purpose."
