Male Human Gamemaster

Peering over the side of the Jenivere, Ashana sees one of four of the ship's previous longboats tied to the anchor chain. Piled in the boat is what looks like a set of studded leather, a light wooden shield, some tools, some additional rope, and a rectangular box. (The mens' missing equipment.) A cat, the First Mate's cat that you remember seeing on the voyage, is darting to and fro, trying to not get drenched by the seawater as the boat bangs against the hull of the ship with each thrust of the tide. You can see jagged holes in the ship where the seawater is leaking into the hold on this side.

Looking up and seeing a familiar face, the cat lets out a pitiful meow.

Female Catfolk Rogue(Scout/Knife master) 1

Hey over here, I found more stuff we can use Ashana calls as she takes out her grappling hook and her rope. Securing her grappling hook to something(a railing if there is one) she will tie her rope to the grappling hook and lower it down to the boat and then try to belay her way down the side of the ship to the longboat.

Climb check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Male Human Gamemaster

You manage to get into the longboat, Ashana. The cat is now trying to climb up your legs to your shoulders.

Male Human Aegis 1

Looking over the edge that Ashana climbs down, Phillip says, "Hey, that's my armor! I'm willing to bet that that shield belongs to you, Adriano. It looks like there's a box, too. I'd imagine that's Varash's stuff. I wonder how it got there? Ah, well. At least we've got our equipment back." Phillip will, if there is a decent amount depth of water, jump in from the deck, activating his Astral Skin just before leaping.

Applicable rules.

[ooc]Swim Check to avoid damage1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15

Female Human Ranger 2D10

"Who would do that?" Sasha asked Phillip as he went over the side. "Hey! Who made you a dolphin, anyway!" the redhead asked as she looked over the railing to the longboat down below. "So are you going to take the boat back to shore, or what?" Sasha asked Ashana. "We still gots the Captain's cabin to go through."

Male Human Aegis 1

Phillip comes up near the longboat, looking to make sure that it is, in fact, his armor. He will then help Ashana take it back to the shore if she's going to do that, or climb up if she's going to leave it for now.

"I've always been one for the sea, Miss. I'd say I was made a Dolphin at birth."

Phillip smiles wide at his comment.

Male Human Gamemaster

(Ashana and Phillip can either take the longboat back to shore, since with the oars a strong back can fight the tide, or attempt to get the equipment back on the ship by hauling it up the anchor chain. Of course, with the jagged hole in the side of the ship, it might be easier to get the stuff into the hold and up the stairs to the main deck and the rope up the cliff.)

(Ashana, you now have a cat. Congratulations. You get to keep up with it. Put it on your character profile. You can either take it with you adventuring or leave it at the base camp as a party mascot.)

Female Catfolk Rogue(Scout/Knife master) 1

Ashana picked up the cat and started petting it. She then turns to Phillip Well what do you want to do, we could either try to climb back up there with all the stuff, or we can just take the boat to shore. I'll leave it up to you, but I absolutely hate water so...if we take the boat don't crash it.

Male Human Aegis 1

Heck, we could probably just get it back into the hold where I first came in. It's a pretty big hole, and we could just get this stuff up to the cliff.

Male Human Gamemaster

(So what are you doing? Adriano, are you still here? You can open the door, but it is mysteriously stuck. You'll need a STR check to get it open. Sasha can help.)

Male Half-Elf (Varisian) Cleric of Sarenrae 1

Still here, sorry my dad was in the hospital this week it has been kind of crazy

Adriano looks at the door with the blood pooled under it, then looks at Sasha "I think we have put that off long enough. he points at the door. "It seems time to see what is behind it. Adriano walks toward the door looking for a place to grip as he tries to pull it open.

Strength Check: 1d20 ⇒ 12

I am assuming it will take a roll higher than a 12.

Looking a tad defeated "Sasha could you give me a hand."

Strength Check #2: 1d20 ⇒ 13

Female Human Ranger 2D10

"Yeah, they're going to be a while down there." Sasha said. She walked over, and gave another shove to the door alongside Adriano.

STR check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 (Y'know, I swear I'm not faking these NPC rolls. But they have been consistently higher than any of the PC's rolls, with more crits and nat 20s overall.)

Male Human Gamemaster

As the door flies open, you are greeted by the sight of the unfortunate First Mate, Alton Devers. The First Mate's body lies slumped against the wall of the corridor, quite dead, still wearing his masterwork studded leather armor and clutching his masterwork short sword in one hand.

(Use the map of the quarters for reference. It shows the First Mate/Navigator's quarters, Captain's cabin, and the passengers' quarters. Ieana's private quarters was in the bow of the Jenivere, which is now gone.

Even to the untrained eye, the first mate seems to have died in the last few hours from two sets of wounds - slashes across his body and puncture holes at several places on his lower and upper legs. (You can do a heal check to accurately identify them.)

Male Half-Elf (Varisian) Cleric of Sarenrae 1

As for rolling I am rolling this bad on all my games on the boards, I might have you roll the heal check for me.

Adriano walks up to the body looking over the wounds trying to place where they are from.

Heal Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Really I have a +8 and I only rolled an 11, that is sad. LOL

Female Catfolk Rogue(Scout/Knife master) 1

Well I vote we head for the shore, the way the waves are coming they can help guide us Ashana says to Phillip. She will then help row them to the shore.

"Very well." Phillip will help row. Once we get to shore, he'll help pull the boat up the shore, somewhere near Varash, who I would imagine he could now see. Ashana, are you going back up onto the ship?

If she is, she's probably going to climb, and I'll accompany her that way, but if not, it's swim time.

Male Human Gamemaster

Adriano, with that DC you can't tell why he died, only that the First Mate has both sword cuts and stings from the sea scorpions.

Female Human Ranger 2D10

"Let's drag him out." Sasha told Adriano.

Male Half-Elf (Varisian) Cleric of Sarenrae 1

"let's then we can finish searching his quarters, who knows there might be something we can use. Adriano grabs the first mate's arms to get ready to drag him out.

Male Human Gamemaster

Adriano and Sasha move Alton Devers' body from the corridor to the main deck. (No mention of taking the armor, weapon, or what's in his pockets. Which door are you going down first? Use the map of the quarters for reference.)

(Phillip, Ashana, and the ship's cat are merrily rowing their way to shore, unless Ashana has other plans. Varash can interact with them there on the beach.)

Male Half-Elf (Varisian) Cleric of Sarenrae 1

Sorry playing the Neutral Good Cleric in this game he will only take from the body if he needs something like maybe a key he will then roll the dead.

Adriano heads back into the hallway to the check the first door on the right to see if it is locked. If unlocked he will head in.

Male Human Gamemaster

(Correct map link to interior rooms.)

The first door on the right as you walk in would be the First Mate's / Navigator's room. Opening the unlocked door, you see on the floor - the fat, bloated body of Rambar Terillo, the ship's cook!

Male Half-Elf (Varisian) Cleric of Sarenrae 1

A bit startled by the bloated body, Adriano calls out to Sasha "We have another body here, this one's the cook." Adriano looks at the body trying to figure out what might have killed him.

Heal Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

After examining the body if nothing happens Adriano will search the desk.

Perception Check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Female Human Ranger 2D10

"Ugh." Sasha said, when she saw the second body. "He didn't eat too much of his own food, did he?" she asked sarcastically. (Heal check (untrained, 15 is max): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4) "I don't want to touch him." Sasha muttered.

Male Human Gamemaster

(Adriano, with that DC all you can figure out is that Rambar Terillo has been dead for several hours, even a day, longer than Alton Devers. His shirt is torn near the neck, but the body is starting to bloat from the heat.)

(You guys really need to "take 10" or "take 20" on some of these rolls!)

(The desk at the far end of the small room is unlocked, and you discover several scrolls of maps that the navigator used to direct the course of the Jenivere. Among the maps is

(Somebody add these maps to the loot list. The voyage map is worth 150 gp because it includes the Mwangi Expanse, and the Smuggler's Shiv map would be worth 25 gp to explorers or settlers of the mysterious island.)

The ship continues to rock against the cliff with every surge of the tide.

Female Catfolk Rogue(Scout/Knife master) 1

Ashana looks at Phillip and nods It looks like some of the other survivors needed some help so I'll be going back. She will then put the cat down on the beach Now stay here she says to it rather sternly and then gets up and walks to the cliffs and begins to climb.

Climb check to get back to the ship:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Male Half-Elf (Varisian) Cleric of Sarenrae 1

Will remember that for the next skill check.

Adriano rolls the maps up putting them in a case he has. "I can't tell whether it was his food that killed him. But I will take another look after we finish making sure the rest of the quarters are unoccupied with hostiles." he looks back down at the corpse "From looking at him he has been dead longer than the First Mate. Adriano steps over the corpse wondering if he missed something. Then heads down to the Captain's cabin.

Burlap Bag of Holding 3

Om nom nom. I've got the maps.

Male Human Aegis 1

Climbing it is.

I'm going as well. Varash, keep up the good work. We should be out of here fairly quickly, I hope.

Climb check1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Male Human Gamemaster

for Phillip and Ashana, maybe Varash:

(Ashana, the cat, seeing the biggest sandbox it has had access to in months, is not going anywhere soon. We'll see if it warms up to Varash.)

Phillip manages to outclimb Ashana on the cliff, not even needing the hemp rope they had staked at various places on the rocks.

The two of you jump back down to the Jenivere. The first thing you see is the First Mate Alton Devers, still dressed in his masterwork studded leather armor and clutching his masterwork short sword in one hand. He has obviously been moved from the stern cabins of the ship, since the door is wide open and you can see Sasha in the corridor.

Adriano and Sasha:

(Using this map of the cabins.)

Adriano, the captain’s cabin is a wreck — a jagged hole in the side has allowed most of the room’s contents to spill out into the surf and wash away. There are no bodies - alive or dead - in the room. But a few things remain: an overturned desk (fortunately, the desk was too large to fit through the hole in the wall), a stout wooden chair, a heavy wooden table, the Captain's large bed, and a large footlocker leaning against the desk which is marked with crude writing, reading Jask Derindi. The canopied bed is ready to slide off into the drink.

Going to the overturned desk, a cursory inspection of the upper drawer reveals several keys. One of those must be for the manacles on the prisoner on shore. Another drawer has several sea maps, none as good as the navigator's collection. Underneath them is a heavy tome - the Captain's log for the Jenivere.

The lowest desk drawer is locked, as is the footlocker. Both are made from heavy oak, and will take quite a bit of force to open, if you don't have a key or lockpick.

Male Human Aegis 1

As Phillip reaches the top, he'll extend a hand to help Ashana up.

Jumping down and seeing Sasha, he says, So, what have we missed? Find anything else we can use? Even if it's broken, we can still use it."

GM Pace:
Every once in a while, put out some broken things I find, unless they're warped. I can't fix warped. I just might be able to extend our salvage operations.

Female Human Ranger 2D10

"Good that you rejoined us." Sasha said back to Phillip and the cat-person. "I'm more or less standing guard here. Adriano found the cook, if you can believe it, in the First Mate's quarters! He says the man's been dead a lot longer than Devers, here." The redhead motioned towards the dead man on the deck.

"Someone might be able to use that studded leather and short sword." Sasha said thoughtfully. She tilted her head to the far side of the corridor. "Adriano's in there, looking over the Captain's cabin." Sasha gives Ashana the once-over, like she's still trying to figure out the cat-person.

Male Human Aegis 1

"Good to be back, Phillip says, smiling.

Phillip will take the short sword, offering one of his own to anyone who wants it. "Any takers?"

After he has or has not given up his short sword, he'll accompany Adriano in the Captain's cabin to help him look for anything useful.

Female Catfolk Rogue(Scout/Knife master) 1

Ashana feels a little self concious as Sasha is looking at her. She snaps out of it once Phillip asks about the sword. No unfortunately my training limits me to knives only. She will then check both dead bodies to see if she can figure out anymore about what killed them.

Heal check on first mate: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Heal check on the cook: 1d20 ⇒ 19

Male Human Gamemaster

for Ashana:

Ashana, you cannot tell much from the First Mate, but on the fat cook's upper body you discover several large bites, as if a huge snake had bitten the cook multiple times on his shoulder, tearing his shirt. The cook was also dead a full day before the First Mate.

P.S. The cook has been stewing in this heat for so long, he's begun to turn black and bloat. You really don't want to be in the room if he's ready to "pop".

Everybody crowds into the corridor. Adriano, you've got company.

Male Human Aegis 1

"Hey Adriano, find anything useful?"

Male Half-Elf (Varisian) Cleric of Sarenrae 1

Adriano will take the captain's log and he will try the keys in the footlocker and the lower drawer. "I found some maps in the other room, the captain's log. Also some keys I was just about to try out. But I just took a quick look in here.

Male Human Gamemaster

The keys do the trick on both the locked drawer and the footlocker. Adriano and Phillip both sort out what is inside them.

Drawer: a bottle of fine brandy worth 50 gp, a darkwood model of the Jenivere in a glass bottle worth 100 gp, and a small coffer containing 350 gp. Additionally, there is a long leather satchel that holds a dozen labelled potions for emergency use: four potions of Cure Light Wounds, a potion of Cure Moderate Wounds, four potions of Lesser Restoration, a potion of Remove Disease, a potion of Water Breathing, and a potion of Water Walking.

Footlocker: inside you find Jask's gear - a masterwork dagger, a suit of leather armor, two potions of Cure Light Wounds, a holy symbol of a two-faced deity, and a spell component pouch. Additionally, there is a note written to the captain.

the note reads:

This prisoner, Jask Derindi, is to be returned to Sargava for trial. It is in your best interest, to keep him separated from the crew and passengers - he is not dangerous, but my employer requests that he not be allowed to speak with anyone. Should you disobey this request, it would be unpleasant for you and your ship. Additionally, he requests that you keep this prisoner's gear for safe-keeping. I do not know why - and do not care to ask.

You will be paid the standard fee of 350gp for his transfer and the final amount upon his safe arrival in Eleder. Of course, should you have any problems with this man, you are free to kill him. Should this be necessary, you forfeit 50% of your delivery fee.

It is simply signed "X".

(A DC 15 on Appraise or Detect Magic is enough to confirm the value/specifics of each item. A DC 15 on the holy symbol confirms it is of Nethys. I'll need Swag Bag to grab this. Don't forget the maps and the Captain's log. Additionally, if you want something from Swag Bag, make a note of it on your character profile and tell each other IC. Jask might want all of what was in the footlocker.)

Burlap Bag of Holding 3

Om nom nom. Taken care of.

Male Human Aegis 1

Adriano:
"Well, what do you say we keep all of Jask's stuff in the footlocker, and bring it back to him onshore? If we're going to be surviving, it's going to be difficult without all able-bodied people doing something."

Female Human Ranger 2D10

"You boys about done back there?" Sasha called from the corridor, still keeping an eye out in case any more sea scorpions showed up. The ship continued to hit the nearby rocks, sending a shudder through the planks every few minutes. "I'd like to not be aboard what's left of this ship when it decides to turn back into lumber!"

Male Half-Elf (Varisian) Cleric of Sarenrae 1

Phillip:
"I agree the more people the better in this case but what do we about the letter regarding Jask. Do want to continue searching.

"Sasha we'll be right out. We found some stuff.

Male Human Aegis 1

Adriano:
"In my opinion, it looks like they were trying to keep him quiet for some reason. I'm not sure we'll find anything more, but we can try."

"Almost done, Sash. Just give us a little more time."

Additional perception check, if needed: 1d20 ⇒ 4

Male Human Gamemaster

(Adriano and Phillip, the footlocker itself is almost a 2-man lift; everything else in the Captain's cabin is either too heavy or too bulky to get out of there and up the cliff. You could try floating the bed, table, or desk out to shore (roll for it), but it's far more likely for each piece of furniture to sink to the bottom.)

Male Human Aegis 1

"I'll take the left, you take the right, and we'll get this out to the cliff. You wanna take any of the other stuff in here?"

Male Half-Elf (Varisian) Cleric of Sarenrae 1

would we be able to put the potions, the gold, the brandy and the Captain's Log in the Chest with Jask's Stuff.

"That will work, let's see if we get this stuff in there." Adriano gestures to the stuff found in the desk. "also should we check out the rooms across the Hall."

Male Human Gamemaster

(Yes, or you could just use the satchel for the potions.)

Female Catfolk Rogue(Scout/Knife master) 1

Ashana checks over the body of the cook carefully and then walks away, not wanting to be around when the heat makes it expand beyond its limits.

Seeing Adriano and Phillip carrying out a chest she asks Whats in the chest? Oh and I figured out what might have killed the cook. When I checked the body I found there were several large bites on his upper body. The bites look to be from a rather large snake. I suggest we leave before it comes back.

Male Half-Elf (Varisian) Cleric of Sarenrae 1

Just figured it would be easier to have it all in one place.

"It is mostly Jask's belongings but there is also some items we found from the captain's desk." Adriano looks at the cooks body wondering how he missed that. Then looks at the first mate's body. "Sasha, Phillip and Ashana, should we take Alton's armor and sword maybe someone can put it to good use." Adriano is a bit embarrassed by the suggestion but it might mean life or death for one of the living.

Female Human Ranger 2D10

"Yeah, somebody might be able to use either the armor or the sword. It won't help him any more." Sasha agreed, and bent down to help take off Alton's studded leather.
