Oops! DM Stephen's post wasn't there when I started composing mine, and I was kind of distracted on my break.

Anton clears his throat. So. I see three questions: what to take, who gets what, and where to camp. For the first, I think that with our supplies so limited, we should take everything in case we find a use for it. However, I'd rather not carry any of the heavy stuff, since I'm already weighed down about as much as I can be without it affecting me more than the bulkiness of my breastplate does anyway.

Aside from that, I'd like to have the water breathing potion, due to my history with the sahuagin around here. I'm sure you're all sick by now of hearing about how much I hate them. But, I know that I'm already carrying some potent magic here with this wayfinder, so I'm not going to insist; if anyone else wants that potion, it's yours. Except you, Tragershen -- you're already carrying enough powerful ones as it is. He smiles and winks, just teasing a little.

Now, the shield other potion is different, since whoever uses it is putting themselves at risk, as you explained. He nods respectfully at Tragershen, then smiles wryly. I'm very healthy and well-armored, so I'm willing to take that risk; but I wouldn't mind if someone else were even more willing. The other two potions, whatever. He waves a hand dismissively.

As for the rest, I think that we should split the coins and the ruby evenly with the others. They didn't fight the ghouls, but they did lose everything but what they were wearing when the Jenivere sank; and merely keeping our home here safe is a dangerous job in itself. However, there are two related issues: who takes the coins back to them, and who holds the ruby until we get back to where it can be sold.

I trust myself the most, and I assume that everyone else feels the same way about themselves. So who do we all trust the next most? For me it's Nora, and again, I assume that everyone else feels the same way -- except maybe Nora. He grins jokingly, then turns serious. I think that if she were the one to carry the coins back to our base camp and distribute them amongst the ten of us there, as well as being the one to hold the ruby for later, then that would minimize corrosive suspicions.

That leaves where to camp. I'm thinking right at the top of that cliff; we'd be hard to get at for most things from the sea, and if we left the rope anchored, then we could throw it out for a quick way to escape lots of things from the jungle. Also, we'd be nice and refreshed for the trek back to our home base, not to mention that I can't see in the dark.

So, those are my thoughts. What are yours? Anton gestures at the rest.

Nim is largely disinterested in the treasure division... trusting that an equal share will be his reward. If not today, then at some future date when something that does interest him should become available. Nim remains vigilant and watchful for other threats as the little man talks. It is surprising that he doesn't get light headed from all that air escaping his lungs, Nim muses to himself with a smile. He is the ying to my yang I guess... Nim reflects.

Nim strokes Wicewakan as he continues to listen to Anton speak, raising an eyebrow when he mentions splitting the treasure with the other castaways. He clears his throat before interjecting, I do not see why they deserve a share. So far most of them have done nothing but sulk and complain. Those that are coming around have yet still to contribute in any meaningful way... and they most assuredly aren't out risking their lives for the safety and benefit of the group. Those that hunt, get the choice meat. Those that hang back, get what is left over. If you wish to curry favor with them, or bribe them into action, I would suggest doing so with your own share. I am not about to forfeit that which I have earned. If one of us should die out here, I doubt that any of them will be bothered about it. So far, it is they that owes us, if you ask me. When we left them they were on a perfectly good ship.... they have hardly improved things for us since then.

As far as the camp goes, Nim questions the usefulness of having a "base camp" that they are always too far away from to utilize. To what purpose do we invest energy to create a place to camp, when we spend most of our time hunkered down in the middle of the jungle? This island is large. This will only get worse for us as we continue to explore. Can we not make our camp a little more mobile perhaps?

I would tend to agree that we seem to be taking all of the risk, but I wouldn't rule out later distributions to them depending on how things progress. If there is any chance of making it back to camp tonight, I think that would be best.Even with our benefactor's passing, I would say we can follow er method of parcing out valuables we find.

Examining the rusted rapier, he says I think I might be able to restore it. Let's take it with us. I'll review my spell book in the morning and see what I can do.

Male Halfling (Molthuni) Barbarian 1 Ranger (Trapper) 3

The diminutive ranger nods respectfully to the skeptical naturalist, looking up at him (literally) from close to the height of the druid's furry packmate. I think that the risk taken by the others and their usefulness to us are two separate questions. More than once, we've seen first-hand how dangerous this island can be out of nowhere. I doubt that it has been so easy for them in our absence.

As for our portable camp, naturally it would be better to improve it rather than not. However, I'm comforted here -- next to a ghoul-infested wreck on a haunted isle -- by knowing that there's a safe familiar place for me to go home to. But maybe it's just a halfling thing. Anton gives a self-deprecating half-grin, aware of his tendency to keep on talking and talking once he gets going, and already doing his best to rein it in.

You think about 6 hours to get back to camp. You have 1 hour of light left so if you press on tonight about 5 hours tomorrow morning.

DC 15 Knowledge Nature:

It occurs to you that there is one main advantage to a base camp to sleep at. From your experiences or what you have heard in the jungle sleeping in the middle of the jungle floor makes you much more suseptible to jungle diseases. You are actually surprised that no one has come down with something yet.

Nim looks at the portents of the weather and you don't like what you see. From the winds and warmth you are expecting a bad storm to roll in sometime later tomorrow...

Well at least the other will be healthier and happier sitting around base camp while we risk the dangers of the jungle...

We cannot make it to the camp tonight, and a storm is coming tomorrow... we will have to spend the night in the jungle. Let us find something defensible quickly while we still have light left...

There was anywhere from inches to a foot or two of water in the hold as well as a bottom hold full of water that the Ghouls might have come from you assume...

Nora spent some time assisting others in searching the wreck, pulling ot whatever could be found, though she does recomend dispossing of the Ghoul bodies "Fire is the best I think, they are really foul things and they would muck up the water supply and such... oh incidentally I think it goes without saying we shouldn't be drinking, or even wading that much, in the water here... just be careful..."

After the goods are gathered and set around and the discussion begins she listens to each as people talk before piping up with her own opinion. "Well I'm inclined to agree with BOTH Anton and Nim. Nim is right. They haven't been especaially useful... well maybe Jask... but at this point right, they didn't 'do' anything to get this stuff. But we're not in a situation where I think that really matters at this point. I mean this gold and gem is not really useful to us right now, and what is we're going to divvy up as best we can. As I see it we should either count on sharing it, least it become a point of contention, and the last thing we need is people knifing each other in the night over gold they can't spend anywhere.... or we should hide it and just not tell the others."

She can't manage to suppress a bit of a blush at Antons suggestion she hold onto the gold and gem, but she'll shrug, ultimately seeming to agree with the diminutive halflings appraisal of the situation.

"Well as to the potions and stuff... I would suggest we distribute the healing type stuff to people other than me. Not keeping all our eggs in one basket and stuff. I mean as much as I hate to say this, if I take a tumble into the water, or am incapacited in some way, I'd like you guys to be able to get me up and around. Otherwise, I mean where-ever you think they woudl do the most good. I'm willing to carry a bunch of gear. I mean I only have this half-empty backpack at the moment..." She frowns for the loss of her other backpack, a well-worn companion of the road.

The final discussion she is more adament about. She listens and as she hears about the storm she suggest "Well it will take us a while, but if Nim and Anton think they can navigate us well enough... I think we should make back for the Camp Tonight. Granted it will be like...the middle of the night by the time we get back, but I think it better we get back there now than get caught in the jungle during the storm. Plus I think the sooner we get back... well it will be better for Morale. The rest of them aren't really operating as a group yet, and Desna knows what's happened while we've been away. I hope their getting on, but these situations... I mean coming back with a bunch of stuff will make everyone, I think, realize we've got a future... options and such."

Roll to Aid Another on Nim's Survival check to find a good spot: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 so +2 to his 10 + 9, for 21 total.

It's getting hard to tell in the failing light, but it looks like Anton's eyebrows shoot up under his pith helmet at Nora's suggestion. I'm a little surprised... but it's not like you don't know the dangers we could stumble across in this place. It's true that Nim and I can easily keep us on course; and with Larissia's wayfinder, even I can generate light at will now. I'm game if everyone else is.

I will gladly bear a load to keep the most capable free to act. As for whether we stay or return to camp, I respectfully defer to those with practical experience in hazards of the respective choices he says with a deferential nod to Anton and Nim.

Regarding the valuables we have found... For now, I would say that Nora should bear the items of strictly monetary value without concern to the exact totals to be parced out to each of us, with or without the others at the campsite. We may yet find more items of such value as we go, and we can divide them up as we see fit amongst those who survive when we find our means to return to civilization. In a landscape with ancient ruins and numerous ship wrecks, I would say it is actually quite likely we will find more.

In regard to the four potions, I suggest rather than lay firm claim to any of them, we spread them out amongst us for use as we need to survive. Here... Tragershen takes a moment to pull out his inking kit and labels each of the potions, blowing on it carefully to make sure the ink is dry. He hands Corbrius the potion of Shield Other +2 (but I think that should be Shield of Faith for the +2 to make sense) hands Nim the potion of Water Breathing, hands Anton the potion of Water Walking. He holds up the potion of Lesser Restoration and says I will add this to this pouch here as he slips it into a pouch at his side with the other healing and restorative items we have found so far. If they are needed for anyone's welfare and I am not in a position to retrieve them myself, each of you knows where to find them.

Male Halfling (Molthuni) Barbarian 1 Ranger (Trapper) 3

Okay, I just ran the numbers for that 20x30 tarp. It's 600 sq. ft.; using stats for canvas, with 9 sq. ft. per sq. yd., that makes 66 and 2/3 silver in value... and the same number of pounds in weight. I won't bother retconning Anton's little speech, since it was easy enough for him to suggest taking it all when he also said that he didn't want to carry anything heavy. But -- unless someone specifically volunteers to carry the tarp -- I'm going to assume that when we head out, everyone just kind of looks at it, looks at each other, shrugs, and walks off.

XP for the last encounter is 300xp. The single normal snake was worth 100xp...I have you at 900xp...

Male Halfling (Molthuni) Barbarian 1 Ranger (Trapper) 3

Anton's eyes track the potion of water breathing as Tragershen hands it to Nim; then blinks when Tragershen hands him the potion of water walking, worth just as much. Distracted or devious? Genius can go either way. I'll ask him later.

We can carry the tarp.... and just drop it as a free action should the need arise. If we need to flee, I'm sure the tarp won't be going anywhere and can be retrieved after a time.

Nim takes the potion handed to him. Noticing Anton's eyes locked on the vial, Nim holds it out and offers it to the halfling. Do you desire to carry this potion?

Nim grabs the tarp and hefts it onto his shoulder, carrying his spear in one hand by his side. Are we going to try and make the camp or sleep in the jungle tonight. Whichever we decide, we need to do so quickly. Nim eyes the dying light of the day...

Male Halfling (Molthuni) Barbarian 1 Ranger (Trapper) 3

Anton breaks into a brilliant ear-to-ear smile. Sure! Let's trade! And so he offers the potion of water walk with one hand while accepting the potion of water breathing in the other. Thank you, that really means a lot to me, in case I get a chance to pursue some sahuagin and finish them. But maybe that's why Tragershen gave us what he did. Is it unwise? I should still discuss it with him later.

After Nim's next words, Anton moves closer to the somewhat-intimidating wild man to speak to him in confidence. He looks up seriously and says quietly, They're looking to us for guidance. I'm leaning toward going and you just want a decision, so here goes.

Relaxed and grinning, Anton turns to the other three and claps his hands twice. Okay! So pack up all your stuff and get ready for a six-hour trek. We found a really good campsite but there's a storm coming tomorrow, and we need to get gone. Everyone who has light magic, get ready to use it, because we've seen how fast it gets dark here. I've already got my wayfinder ready to go. He holds it up with a smile, then grabs his pack and shrugs it over his shoulders.

Nim exchanges vials with Anton and slips the one he receives into his pack. When everyone is ready he gives Anton a nod to take the lead... and brings up the rear with his trusty companion at his side.

Nora groans a bit as they look over the tarp and fold it up for transport, though granted, swapping it between people shouldn't be too difficult, unless it get's waterlogged. She'll pipe up that it's probably too valuable for shelter purposes to leave behind.

She just sits as the goods are divided, taking the coins and gem and pondering them for a moment before just shrugging and taking a small cloth to wrap the coins in, while slipping the gem innocously into a boot for the time being.

She hauls up whatever she is loaded down with and sets herself to the middle of the party "Well lets get going than, daylight is waning fast and frankly, even though it's basically a pile of leaves and my rolled up cloak, I'll be looking forward to my bed tonight." she smiles a bit and ask innocuously as they head out, probably directed at Nim and Anton really "So... um, what can we expect out here... I mean besides the spirits and cannibals and whatever..."

Ess Oh You Esses. Anton is grinning at the challenge, wayfinder spontaneously placed in his miner's lantern*. Snakes of Unusual Size. He turns to look back at Nora, his headlamp sweeping in an arc to shine at her before he politely tilts his head to send the beam off into the jungle. But you already knew that. He winks.

* Using oil, a miner's lantern provides normal light in a 30-foot cone and increases the light level by one step out to a 60-foot cone, with straps for attachment to a helmet (Pathfinder Society Field Guide pp. 47-48). Corbius looks skeptically at the jungle as the group discusses travelling by night. My gut tells me travelling by night in unknown terrain is never a good idea.

Lets get moving then. I would prefer to wonder around in the dark as little as possible. Who knows what could be waiting for us out there.

He falls into line behind Anton his eyes squinting trying to discern whether all the strange shapes are merely the trees or something ready to jump out and eat them.

Anton freezes in mid-motion and looks back at Tragershen, wide-eyed. That's... I don't really know what to say. No one's ever said anything like that before. Uncharacteristically, the capable ranger stammers, out of his element for once. Th-thank you. I'll keep your words in mind. He looks very serious as he carefully stows the potion that he received from Nim.

After some discussion you decide to press on. It takes you longer than you think to get up the cliff and then haul the tarp up the side of it. By the time you are done with that and have everybody up it is already dark.

As tired as you are you try to make it back to camp, with the delay you still expect about a 6 hour journey.
If anything the jungle at night seems more alive and more forboding. At one point something large flies overhead, out of the range of your light source but enough to make you nervous...

With your magical light source and Nim and Anton's skill in the wilds you get about an hour safely into the journey when Tragershen suddenly falls to his knees and throws up several times. He is sweating profusely and is shaking. He tells you that he hasn't been feeling right the last couple of days but wanted to keep going.
After a quick examination Nora quickly determines that he is suffering from Dysentery. Unless you can carry the mage, you won't be continuing on tonight.

Hopefully what Nora and I are discussing won't affect this, now that I've written it out...

Anton grimaces at the sounds of arguing that reach them as they approach the camp. He schools his face into a blandly pleasant expression before they filter out of the jungle. The rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. Anton winks at Gelik. Sorry for being gone longer than we expected, but we had to stop and tend our good wizard overnight; just a little ordinary illness, and as you can see he's better; but he and Nora could really use some rest, so please keep it down.

In fact, we could all use a break -- and good news, we found some really useful items in the wreck of the Tattooed Lady! -- so how about we throw a party tonight to celebrate our success? And we can all do something different today.

Sasha, after our little adventure, Nim and I can give you a break from foraging for food. If you gather wood for clubs and staves instead, then we could arm everyone. But guess what? We only need two or three, because we found a rapier and a handaxe! The rapier needs some fixing (with mending), and I'm not sure that Tragershen (who offered) is well enough (or got enough sleep), but soon. (I think that prestidigitation would be enough to clean the tarp, handaxe, and shovels. Tell me if anyone does.) If you do that, then please keep your eyes peeled for some better pieces of wood, suitable for shields or maybe even a holy symbol for Jask? And trade you for my trident? He holds the handaxe out to her with his eyebrows raised slightly, his eyes wide open, and his mouth in a closed-lips grin.

Meanwhile, everyone who wasn't up all night being sick, wasn't up all night tending him, and isn't doing something else, can be putting either that tarp or those shovels to good use. If there's time after Nim and I have gathered enough food for a small feast, then I can start turning some animal skins into slings: an ancient halfling art, that of course my parents taught me. With help, I can also start tanning those goat skins into leather, in the hopes of eventually making some more armor. These projects won't all be finished in one day, but eventually we'll all be well-armed and -armored, I promise.

At some point during all that, I can tell Gelik what happened so that he can turn it into a story about how the dangers of this island are no match for us. At the end of the day, we'll have a fire, and sit, and eat, and talk. I'll even try and improvise some drums. How does that sound? Anton smiles disarmingly at the grumpy group.

Sounds like they noticed we were late returning Corbius says bluntly to no one in particular as they hear the sounds of arguments.

Corbius stands quietly of to one side as Anton speaks to the group. His hand rests casually on his sword hilt as he nods in agreement to several of Anton's points. Anton is right. We have been here a few das already and our situation is getting better every day.

Ishirou:

I know this is back tracking a bit but I just finished reading the entire PBP and noticed Corbius never responded to Ishirou's original request so I thought I would now. Hope that is ok:)

Ishirou wrote:

Ishirou approaches you late that day, So you know master Corbrius I happen to have this treasure map, one of several I own. It is actually a treasure map to this Island. Since we are already here manby we should check it out? I promise equal shares for all who help me find it? He pulls it out and shows it to you, The treasure is still some distance but as we explore more we should go to it when it makes sense. Should we tell the others or just keep this between us for now?

Corbius studies the map for a few moments then returns it to Ishirou. I think we should keep this between us for the moment Ishirou. Right now our priority has to be looking for a way to survive and eventually get off this island and this could be a distraction to the group. That said, at some point, if our situation improves and there is an opportunity to look for it then I think you should tell the others about it. If for no other reason than to improve the chance of recovering the treasure.

Corbius pauses to see how Ishirou reacts then continues on.

Either way I will honor your trust in me and will not divulge what you have told me without your permission. I will leave it to you to decide what you want to do but remember these people are risking their lives for you as well.

Jask seems very relieved that you are back....

Its Aerys, she is very sick. Nora, perhaps we should work together to help her...we might have to stay with her for the next couple of days.

With Jasks help you determine that not only does she have Dysentery, she also has a rarer disease called the pulsing puffs. It's most obvious symptoms is blue white spores in a cut or scrape.

If untreated, Aerys has a good chance of dying...especially with her other "issue" going on....

Male Halfling (Molthuni) Barbarian 1 Ranger (Trapper) 3

After observing how Nora helped Tragershen and him, Anton does his best to help Aerys. Don't worry, we'll have you right as rain in no time. He tries to soothe the volatile and very sick woman. Figuring that an untrained Heal check could be more useful than Aid Another here.

Dysentery: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Pulsing puffs: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Other "issue": 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

From watching Tragershen's illness run its course, Anton is remarkably capable at helping Aerys with her dysentery. However, he still doesn't quite get how to help her with his own problem. Maybe he'll understand it better once he's kicked it himself.

Giving up on that for the time being, Anton plays it safe on foraging; he'd love to bring home the big kill, but he's more afraid of disappointing and bringing home nothing at all, when he promised a party. Take 10 on Survival for 15. Anybody want to come with me for a little hunting and gathering?

DM Stephen:
I assume that eventually I'll need another Fort save, so here it is: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

The remaining trek through the jungle seems to keep Nora is relatively high spirits, she figures they can pull through, they she will mention they need to be careful about where there water is coming from, and that boiling it before drinking it might be a good idea.

She frowns a bit when they reach the camp and the argument is in full swing. She nods to Jask. though does comment to the others. "Nobody is going anywhere, there is plenty of danger on this island for everyone and we all have to work together or we're just going to add more 'ghosts' to this place. Now as Anton said we found plenty of useful things, including that big tarp we lugged through the jungle. So we can ensure better protection from the rains that Nim is telling us will be here relatively soon. I have to look after those of us who are sick, but I suggest the rest of you do what Anton says and get your buts in gear so we're not all ankle deep in water..."

Diplomacy Check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

She looks over Tragershen once more, and makes sure he and Aerys are getting clean water in volume, though she does also say "Oh, and since there is going to be a storm, maybee setting out some containers to catch it might be an idea... I dunno, isn't rain water generally clean?" she looks to Anton or Nim for answer to that while she takes no chances with Aerys, pulling out some of her limited healing supplies to tend to the woman.

So take 10 on healing for 17 in regards the Dysentery. Than a Heal check using one of the uses of the Healing Kit I have for the Pulsing Puffs 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 2 = 21

Nora, Jask, and Anton take turns helping the sick woman. When Anton is finished doing what he can he asks for volunteers to help hunt. Sasha does volunteer, but you can tell the women is scared....

She will assist Anton, anyone else going? You can retcon it if you want.

The rest of you, with the help of Nim, spend the rest of the time putting your new tools to work finishing up your shelter. It functions better now and is coming together nicely. Nothing bad happens that day and the others seem to have better spirits with you around, although Nora speech didn't seem to do anything to sooth their anger towards each other.

The night is peacful and you awaken the next morning to check on Aerys.

Aerys seems a little better, the pulsing puffs seem to be gone but the Dysentery is still taking its course and you think you will probably need to tend her one more day to see her safe.

So you can wait for Nora to finish up getting Aerys back on her feet or set out without her?

Anton looks off into the distance and nods slowly, then looks back at Nora. Not as clean as created water of course; but if it would take less magic to just purify some normal water along with our food, then that would be one more resource conserved. Anton shrugs one shoulder and smiles wryly. Don't have a magical bone in my body, I'm afraid. It's all a bit of a mystery to me.

Today, 4th of Lamashan 4708

Reluctant to go out without Nora, who is needed to help Aerys, Anton suggests taking advantage of the circumstance to do things that they otherwise wouldn't have time for. Matching actions to words, he proceeds to gather materials from the jungle and make some simple weapons for the castaways. (Three clubs if Tragershen is able to fix the rapier from the Tattooed Lady -- otherwise four -- and five slings. I'll take lack of objection to mean that Sasha traded Anton's trident back for the handaxe, but he knows that she favors using two weapons.)

I'll be happy to give instruction to anyone who is new to slinging. One nice thing, at least you won't have to worry about running out of ammo. There's always more rocks! He casually slings at a bird that was intently eyeing the scraps around his workspace, hitting the branch that it was perched on and sending it off with an indignant squawk.

While out gathering materials, Anton keeps an eye peeled for better-quality wood for a holy symbol for Jask. (Even if that takes a check, assuming the same DC as the Craft check, Anton can take 10 on Survival for a 15 to forage.) Anyone know any woodworking? He holds up a fine chunk of hardwood with an interesting grain.

If Tragershen is able to mend the rapier... Say, if you can do that, could you also clean off the rust and mold from the stuff we found? The better condition we keep it in, the longer it'll last. Considering the ghouls and gravity that we had to fight to get it all here in the first place... well. I'm sure that you'd rather avoid a repeat performance of that trip even more than I would. He wrinkles his nose and then purses his mouth in a sympathetic half-grin. Prestidigitation might be enough.

You swap out a low power spell for mending (please specify which one) and cast it several times to bring the item back to a usable condition. Sasha presses you to use the item since it is a light weapon and can use that and the hand axe to good use.

Out of the 5 Gelik and Jask still seem to be reluctant to open up to you but are happy that you are back...maybe you can breakthrough to one of them today while you have some time. Jasks crimes are still a mystery to you and certainly having a bard won over to your side might help to raise everyone's spirits...

Anton and Shasha return later that day with a lizard, some fruit, and a few edible plants, enough to feed the group for dinner and breakfast.

You are cleaning up after dinner when you here some odd noises...it is only a short warning to grab your weapons when the kha'ing noise results in 3 flying creatures rushing out of the jungle to attack Gelik and Anton!

A brightly colored creature swoops down to attack you from above. Its head is overly large, with a mouth full of sharp teeth and
bright, shiny eyes. The thing chirps, lashes its long thin tail, and
then with a flap of leathery wings is past you through the air.

This creature is a Dimorphodon. It can attack as it flies by you and its bite carries a venom that can make you weak...
