BTW if you want to spend the time to find materials to replicate the cost of copying spells, I am open to that idea, but right now with what you have it would be tough.

If our illustrious DM would be good with it, I would trade out True Strike for Expeditious Retreat or Summon Monster I. And Tragershen wouldn't be opposed to sharing spells with Corbius (and when the time comes Aedalis). And it wouldn't necessarily have to be on a one-for-one basis as far as Tragershen is concerned. You know, greater good and saving each others' lives and all that.

ETA: After much dithering, I finally decided to go with the combat style would be the most in-character. They almost all died since he couldn't hit the lizard muskie hard enough, whereas his sling staff has been nearly useless in the close quarters of the jungle; and even if Clopper had survived, he wouldn't work with Anton's new tactic of stealthing ahead of the group. Naturally, this means that he'll be trading out his trident for a halberd ASAP.


By the way, I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to DM Stephen for starting and running this game, and everyone else for their really active participation. I was involved in two other attempts at Serpent Skull PbP and both fell apart long before we had explored this much of the island. Indeed, our post count is well past both of those efforts combined. +1 indeed! I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed having such a consistent game.

Now to shape expectations for future posting. I've been doing overtime the last four weeks, with no end in sight. I was on the verge of burnout before this holiday weekend -- and my understanding is that it's the last one until Independence Day. Furthermore, I won't even bother taking my laptop to work tomorrow, because I already know that I won't have enough time and energy to use it.

I'll still update at least once a day, but for the foreseeable future, longer RP posts will be mostly limited to the weekend. And that goes double for this week in particular, since I'll be making up for the day off with more work the other days.

You're so modest, Nim. I think that Wicewakan should've had at least 16 hp before the level-up, due to normal wolf plus Toughness. I'd also assume that Toughness works for animal companions as it does for you, so +3 more in addition to +4 and +2 for the 3rd HD and Con bonus, for a total of 25.

I will admit to completely relying on HeroLab to stat up Wicewakan. I find the written animal companion rules kind of confusing to be honest.

HeroLab has calculated Wice's HP as: 11(3d8:4,3,4) +6(Con) + 3(Toughness) = 20

If this is incorrect, I am all ears. :)
And of course, Stephen's opinion is the one that matters most. :)

Indeed. :) Although I probably shouldn't do math so late at night, I think I see the source of the 5-point difference: I was going 4,5,4 same as a normal wolf advanced 1 HD, then adding an extra +3 for the house-ruled Toughness. I've double-checked the CRB and Bestiary, and I still have no idea why Hero Lab would calculate an animal companion's hp like that, when it's 3d8.

ETA: Is there by any chance a setting to roll animal companions' hitpoints instead of taking the average? That's all I can think of.

The wolf should NOT be weaker than it's bestiary cousin so I agree.

Sorry to do this but I am going to "tweak" the toughness feat one more time after more consideration.

+3 hit points at first, +1 additional hit point per level after first.
2nd: +4
3rd: +5 etc.

Sorry, you should have max wealth for 1st level. I know you are getting hosed out of some wealth, but I will make it up to you guys later in the treasure hauls...you will see.

I will warn you I am usually a little generous with custom items...and drop some of the other mundane magic or treasure.

So did we spend a night in the jungle on the way back from the ruins, or did we make it back to the base camp the same day? I didn't quite follow.

I probably won't update Anton's gear until the weekend; it's tricky due to his containers' smaller capacity, and I'm pulling a second 13-hour day in a row at work tomorrow.

The party loot log should be up-to-date. Anything where the Owner is listed as "base camp" is fair game for whoever wants it.

Nim, I just noticed that you had your wolf's HP advancement reversed. Should be 4/5/4 no 5/4/5. 23 total HP's. Thanks! I think we have it straight now...


That keeps a 5 and a 4, and changes a 5 to a 4, so would be only l less (for 24 total) if I read it right.

I just got Hero Lab myself, to make it easier to participate in PbPs for playtesting the RPG Superstar round 4 encounters. I'm finding that it's good -- very good -- but not perfect. Still glad I got it.

I have a question too. Is it possible to make a crawling withdraw, at double the normal crawling rate of 5 ft. per round? That would make it usable in difficult terrain. "Crawling incurs attacks of opportunity from any attackers who threaten you at any point of your crawl," so the acrobatics version would still have a purpose: the withdraw version would only prevent an AoO from an attacker threatening the first square you move out of, not any you move into.

Corbius might not even want to do that; I just want him to be able to make an informed decision. ;)

Theres a Rogue Talent for that I believe so suspect the answer is no.

As for getting up from prone, theres a feat to do it as a free action but even then it incurs AOO.

I can't find anything like that. There's a rogue talent (Rogue Crawl) and identical feat (Fast Crawl) for being able to crawl faster, but that's not really relevant; it would just make for a faster crawling withdraw, if such a thing is possible. Likewise, the feat for standing up as a free action would just make for a faster usage of Acrobatics to stand up without provoking an AoO; it wouldn't really affect the ruling of whether that's possible in the first place.


No acrobatics check to stand from Prone without an AOO. I think there used to be something in 3.5 and the DC was 40...

I am back so we can pick back up. Looking at the round actions now.

I can't speak for anyone else; but for me, I'd rather you just call it "extend hexes", if you have to call it something ooc recognizable. "Extend hexes (sifting through the flow of time and fate)" if you want to remind us of how it works for you. It's hard to explain, but even in scare quotes, "cackle" is so incongruous for the character that it puts my shoulders up.

I think i'll call it "Focus" or something once i've thought more about the way I want to fluff it. I'm still looking for Aedalis' 'voice' at the moment and trying to develop the way he thinks.

I always intended to rename Cackle. Was just getting people used to the mechanics of it before I started renaming things.

On the augury chance - was my bad. Was adding the skill bonus on to the spell listed value of 70%; not the feat listed value of 60%. So the chance for a meaningful reply is 71% only.

I'll roll for it in future as part of the action and feel free to leave all the flavor delivery to me.
