Welcome to the Starfinder Second Edition Rules Discussion Forum!

If you’ve read the sticky posts in the Pathfinder Second Edition Rules Discussion forum, the Pathfinder First Edition Rules Discussion forum, or the Starfinder First Edition Rules Discussion forum, you’re well aware of the ropes, and this all may sound pretty familiar to you! Feel free to skip!

Please use this forum to ask your questions about the rules of Starfinder Second Edition! You can either post a question to ask the community, or you can even post a thread about an answer you came across that you find particularly delightful or helpful. Our community is full of a wealth of knowledgeable GMs, players, and general readers or all levels of experience of the game. Please keep that in mind when interacting! What’s obvious to you may not be obvious to someone else, so please treat everyone and every question with consideration and grace. As usual, please abide by our Community Guidelines, and if you see anyone breaking those guidelines, please flag the comment or thread for moderation by our team!

Debating rules is allowed and encouraged! A lot of interesting and new ideas come from intelligent and civil debates. That being said, we do want to emphasize that we want to keep these debates polite. Even if you disagree with someone, it doesn’t mean you need to insult them! Please always refer to our Community Guidelines in regards to keeping all conversations respectful.

Within those debates, there are bound to be times when members of our community disagree with a rule or point out an error with it. Please keep in mind that sometimes, a rule is just written that way, and the thing you may take issue with may very well have been intentional. But, for the times it is a genuine error, let me introduce you to our FAQ!

How does the FAQ work? And what is Errata?

It’s possible that questions may arise during the first read of our games. In addition to our forum, the FAQ system exists to provide an answer to some of the questions we receive more often than others, as is the case with most FAQ sections you may already be used to! Please keep in mind that these questions are aggregated based on their frequency, rather than their level of difficulty. If something seems like an easy question with an easy answer to you, it may not seem that way to someone else, so please refrain from disparaging both community members asking as well as us for pointing attention to it. Remember, we just want to help, and if lots of people are asking the same question, we want to help them regardless.

If you come across a question that you believe would be good for the FAQ, or if you recognize a question pattern that our mod team wasn’t able to pick up on, you can mark that question as a FAQ candidate for our team to review.
Our team of editors does an amazing job combing through every one of our books to make sure there aren’t mistakes, but they’re only human! Sometimes a few things still slip through the cracks, we appreciate you for letting us know about this! In order for these mistakes to be reviewed by our Dev team, rather than sending us an email or commenting on social media, please make a thread about it here in our forums! You can either make a specific thread that highlights one particular issue, or you can compile several errors you’ve found in threads like this one, but make sure to indicate that it’s for Starfinder and put it in the right place! Our team will post Errata on our FAQ twice a year, in the Spring and Fall. All those who purchased a PDF will then receive a free new PDF of those changes implemented into the text. Although we’re unable to go back in time to fix mistakes that have already been printed into books, the changes we’ve made will also be implemented in all future printings of the books we correct. If you have a physical book and don’t want to wait for another printing, or if you’re just excited to see a change that was particularly frustrating get fixed, you can find the Errata here labeled by the appropriate book.

Again, we will not be accepting rules questions or errata suggestions via email or social media. If you post a rule question on our social media or if you send an email with questions, you will be directed to our forums. This is Paizo policy.

Thank you again for wanting to take part in our forum! Please remember our Community Guidelines as you post, and we hope you enjoy your time here!

Best,
- Maya (xe/xem/they/them)
