Luminary Class Discussion

Scarab Sages

So I'm reading over the Lumanary class and I had a few questions.

Notably all of the initial stagecraft spells lock a spotlight onto a person and prevent it from moving, and it lasts a minute. But . . . the spotlight disappears if it's on the same person for two rounds so . . . . EH? Are the stagecraft spells supposed to prevent the spotlight from disappearing? Did I miss some wording?

Also a lot of the stagecraft spells could be cleaned up. Diva requires you to 'perform' to heal people. Is that a 1 or 2 action activity? Star player gives you 3 HP? EVER? A level 20 sports baller is still only handing out 3 Temp HP with this ability?

Also, some of the props are clearly better than others. The sports prop is an improvised weapon, so -2 to hit is not great. And the contest prop doesn't do anything but can be held. Theater has use, as you can make a duplicate of something to fool an enemy, fashion acts as a disguise kit, music gives you an instrament (not great, but it has its uses if you need to put on an impromptu performance). But a holographic trophy that everyone can tell is a hologram and worthless that you can just hold, I can't see the point of it.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Perform is an existing action. Asking people to perform also means it has synergy with mechanics tied to Performing, like Fascinating performance.

The theater prop isn't actually useful unless you're a master in Deception and have Quick Disguise. Because props only last a minute. Hardlight Props in general are seem to be a ribbon feature, like a cantrip.

The 1st level focus spells are a case of specific overriding general. You get a bonus spotlight that locks on for a minute and can't move and doesn't vanish until the spell duration ends.

Yeah, but it doesn't officially call out that it doesn't disappear, it's just kinda implied. Would just be nice to know the specifics is all.

Many rules effects are implied by knowing other basic rules and how they build and interact, yes. Thats why every new element, as here, doesn’t require three to six paragraphs of explanation.
