Scarab Sages

Here's the Trailer

I recall the book being entertaining. Though I didn't enjoy it as much as I did The Martian. The movie looks like it could be good as well, judging from the trailer.

I've been hearing good things about the movie. Although one thing being said is they had to cut a lot out. Disappointing, but understandable, considering the source material.

It had a decent opening weekend. I hope it keeps enough momentum to make money. The wife and I may go see it this weekend. Been awhile since we had a date night.

Just got back from seeing this.

I'd been afraid that I'd gotten my expectations so high that I was bound to be disappointed. But I wasn't.

This movie is absolutely wonderful on so many levels. I saw it in IMax and it was worth every penny. Some of the visuals are just outstanding

Its been over a year since I read the book but I honestly couldn't recall much of anything that was cut. Oh, some things were a little compressed and there were some minor changes but I thought that it was amazingly true to the book in content and feel. About as well done as a film adaptation can be with "only" a 2 1/2 hour running time.

Ryan Gosling is just superb as Grace. And Rocky is absolutely spot on.

I'm pretty sure that this is going with Lord of the Rings and Pride and Prejudice as movies (and books) that I rewatch and reread once every year or two.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I do know one thing that was cut. I was watching a live interview with Andy Weir. At one point he was talking about how disappointed he was they cut the part where Antarctica gets nuked to help keep the planet warm. They were working on including it, but it just never fit in well.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I looked at a video talking about the changes and I'm currently rereading the book.

Yeah, there are more changes than I'd realized. But they all seem to be firmly in the "Its a movie with different rules than a book" or the "We only have 2.5 hours so we have to cut SOME things" categories.

It is at least as good an adaptation of the book as the Lord of the Rings trilogy was of its source material. Not good enough to satisfy the absolute purists but way, way better than could reasonably be expected.
