The movie dropped tonight, and while I enjoyed it, I was also a bit disappointed.
The story felt rushed. They covered a lot of ground in just under two hours. It would probably have been better served if they had made it a four or five episode mini-season. That would have given them time to flesh out some of the new players, while giving more focus to the existing characters.
The story itself was enjoyable and well told. Although I dislike they way they characterized Aethelstan. He was portrayed as far more foolish and heartless (and maybe a little evil) than he was in season five of The Last Kingdom. That said, the story still blended nicely with historical fact, which is something I liked about the earlier series.
The ending had a bit of ambiguity, but I doubt we'll see another film or season of the series. Still, never say never.
I saw it last night after not having watched the show (my wife did though). It was ok, but not great. It definitely seems to heavily lean on viewers having watched the show.
