I've never been sure if this is a deliberate pun, or just a coincidince.

It's a coincidence. I named her back in 1990 or thereabouts, long before searing ray was a spell. Well... not ENTIRELY a coincidence, since I arrived at her name after starting from "sun ray" and adjusting as I went until I got to Sarenrae.
