Maybe I'll make it to magus one day..

I played a Dwarf Magus to 13th level using a Dwarven Waraxe. I'd show up to Cons wearing a fake beard and plastic Viking Helmet. I never let on that he was a Caster. I placed his mini up front and said I'd be taking the hits. When my turn in combat came around I'd start off by Sundering.

Then during 2nd round, declare Spell Combat, cast Intensified Shocking Grasp. Watch as everyone's jaw hits the floor.

Hmm, I like.

I'm a fan of the dwarven waraxe magus. I made one as a bladebound. Mostly I used more defensive spells than damage, but then a scenario happened where the fighter went down in front of me due to some brutal tactics. Then it wasn't just jaws hitting the floor when I started casting the heavy stuff; it was bodies.

I see you, Big Norse Wolf, and Kalindlara in nearly every thread. Black Blood Troll and RavingDork too.

PBTHTHTHTHS :)

Even then though, how often do you see us with the SAME opinion?

Oh, quite rarely, thankfully. :D it'd get horribly stale if we did.

Just thinking that you lot seem to gravitate to the same kind of threads that I do, so presumably the people who gravitate to the power character threads are similarly a fairly standard group.

Let's be honest: dwarves are a fairly powerful race. Bonuses to useful stats, penalties to the one you can usually afford dumping most. A significant bonus on saving throws vs. about 50% of all bad stuff that gets thrown against you that stacks with almost anything else.

They may not be the all-purpose vehicles that are humans/aasimar/tieflings/half-elves/half-orcs, but they're still a top choice for about a third of all classes and a decent choice for the next third.

I'm a powergamer and a lover of Dwarves. This isn't an ideal Combo. But there are a number of builds where being a Dwarf is actually the best choice. While the Gunslinger might not be that Class it's not like a Dwarven Gunslinger is gonna be way behind the power curve by any means. Not 100% optimal but maybe 95% considering that what it looses in offensive capacities it gains in Defenses.

Also one thing I have started to do when building Dwarven Characters is to bite the bullet and spend 17 points on my primary attacking stat. As I have no problem with dumping CHA this makes for pretty strong stat arrays. For a gunslinger something like:

STR 10 DEX 18 CON 12 INT 12 WIS 16 CHA 5 is quite workable.

If you want social skills get the new alternate race trait that adds bonuses to Diplomacy and stuff and pick up the trait that lets you socialize with INT and your set.

Dwarves make effective clerics apart from channelling; Con bonus helps a bit if you want to mix it up in melee. So also nice for war priests.

Dwarven Zen Archers are just insane. Wisdom bonus, Fast Movement, supreme saving throws..

Dwarven druids use wildshape to get rid of the only real downside to dwarves: short legs.

I made a Dwarven Goliath Druid.

Being a Dwarf that turns into Giants, he's obviously enough not all there. Earlier on I thought about his backstory involving ogre torture, but got squicked. Rather, Mwangi itself is the problem. He's from the Terwa Highlands and since every trek inland ends in disaster(Bloodsalt erupts, he finds Tazion and barely survives, his slag giant ally gets eaten by greater shadows, etc) the Mwangi in his mind has become a haunt of darkness and death. Think Joseph Conrad. He's paranoid, hates the dark and has a nervous attack once in a while. Super fun to play.

The mechanics aren't quite in place yet though. His pet T-Rex is the actual powerhouse of the duo until he hits level 6 and gets his goliath form.

Edit: Darn. Just realised what turning into giants reminded me of. It's a crap manga, but the jokes, man...Maybe I'll rename him Jaeger or something. Jaeger Maister, the titan of booze.
