Nanocyte Absorption Faculty

When taking the Absorption Faculty at 1st level, it says that the nonocyte get Defensive Dispersal at level 1 instead of level 2. It states afterward that you add 1/2 your nanocyte level to the absorbed damage. My question is thus: does the 1/2 level absorption get added AS WELL as the character level to the Defensive Dispersal, or does the half replace the character level to the absorption?

As well. They wouldn't intend to make it so characters focusing on the faculty get a nerfed version of it.
