I'm looking at this class ( https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/3rd-party-classes/interjection-games/tinke r/ ) and trying to figure some things out. I have a lot of questions.
1. For inventions that replace other inventions, do you spend the BP cost for both, or just the upgraded version? In other words... if I have Electroblaster which costs 3 BP and replaces Electroshocker which costs 3 BP, then does this mean Electroblaster is actually worth 6 BP? Or only 3? I feel like arguments could be made in both directions... additional cost for additional utility... replace means replace and so everything about the previous version is gone including its cost... but the class never actually says, so I have no idea.
2. It says that magical auras can degrade the Alpha's logic matrix and so it can't use magical equipment... just what exactly does this mean? Does this only include magical items that are equipped in an equipment slot like belts or headbands, or does it also apply to slotless items like ioun stones? I would assume a +1 longsword counts and is therefore unusable... but what if someone casts Greater Magic Weapon on my Alpha's masterwork longsword? Does my Alpha suddenly become incapable of using it because it's magical equipment now? If I ask my Alpha to use its grappling hook to cross a pit and grab the +1 longsword on the other side, is it capable of doing so?
3. For that matter, since the class specifically says the Alpha can't use magical equipment, does that mean that my other automatons CAN? Because it seems kind of silly to only apply this restriction to the one automaton that's supposed to be special and more powerful than the others. And you could say that's because they're not smart enough to make proper use of magical equipment... except that being intelligent is not a requirement for getting the bonus of a Belt of Physical Perfection +6, or for that longsword you're wielding with your martial weapon proficiency invention to be +1 Vorpal Brilliant Energy, and it would seem that such gear would also be usable by other intelligent automatons such as the one gained by the Independence Script innovation (though to be fair that one can't participate in combat, but still.)
