Crafting system to give buffs to weapons / armor

Homebrew and House Rules

First time poster. I'm trying my hand at being a GM again after a 20 year hiatus and may be overreaching with some of my homebrewing. I wanted to create a crafting system that would utilize all the gems that players find from the random treasure generator I use. I thought it would be fun to allow players to socket gems into their gear similar to some video games (e.g. Path of Exile, FFVII, etc.). I wanted the gems to give different buffs depending on if you put it in a melee weapon, ranged weapon, or armor. The players would not know what any of the gems do until they put it in their gear, which could create a fun trial and error mechanic. I'm not necessarily going for the gems to be exactly balanced with each other because my head would probably explode, but any constructive criticisms would be much appreciated (I figure if one gem seems too powerful, I can always start limiting drops for that particular gem).

I may be just really non-tech savy, but for some reason every time I try to post the web address for the google doc, the post is forcing a space near the end of the address right before "j3v4/edit" and it won't let me fix it.
