Force Matrix and aligning shields (Great Grav-Train Robbery)

Rules Questions

Hello,

I am going thru the Great Grav-Train Robbery that I plan to run for friends and I now have a question.

The adventure states that "In battle, Barat focuses on one enemy at a time—preferably an enemy who threatens his teammates. [...] On the first turn of combat, he creates a shield for himself out of entropic energy that acts as a field riot shield. Then, he aligns this shield and his armor’s force field against his chosen enemy, combining the benefits of the riot shield with his attracting shield ability and gaining Damage Resistance for as long as his force field holds up. He tries to keep the other members of the team adjacent to him so that he can protect them with Bodyguard, In Harm’s Way, and intervene."

The Force matrix takes a move action to activate until the beginning of the player's next round. Same for aligning a shield. Is the module implying that both can be combined into a single move action or am I reading too much into this? Otherwise, it is implying that Barat is really going defensive!

Thanks!

They cannot ordinarily be combined, but it sounds like either the author didn't know that, or it's a unique ability of that NPC (which is a thing you can do).

It's probably the former, nonsensical tactics are not uncommon in published adventures.
