You still need a rune's formula in order to etch it?

Rules Discussion

The rule for etching runes in GM Core seem to be unchanged from what it was from the Core Rulebook, which right now leads to at minimum some slightly conflicting wording.

As it stands, in page 225 of GM Core under "The Etching Process", the paragraph reads "Etching a rune onto an item follows the same process as using the Craft activity to make an item. You must be able to Craft magic items, have the formula for the rune, have the item you’re adding the rune to in your possession throughout the etching process, and meet any special Craft Requirements. The rune has no effect until you complete the Craft activity. You can etch only one rune at a time."

The main issue is the fact that it still says that you must have the formula for the rune, despite the recent change to the Craft activity to not require the formula to craft items anymore.

I feel that, obviously, the intention is for runes to not require formulas anymore to be able to etch them onto items, and that is how I intend to rule it in my games. Nonetheless, perhaps this might be a change that will be included the next time GM Core gets errata-ed/printed?

Agreed.

I believe the Pathfinder Remaster Errata Submission thread should be appropriate for GM Core problems as well as Player Core.

While it's not an "official" place to submit, the devs are known to peruse the boards for such things and this one is highly visible.

Oh I never saw that, thank you very much for pointing me to it!

Noticed the same inconsistency. Reported as errata candidate, cp. https://paizo.com/threads/rzs43wcu&page=3?Pathfinder-Remaster-Errata-Su bmission#138.
