I heard about this when "Mileena" was trending on Twitter because people were upset that she's portrayed as less, um, Mileena.
Looks like they're going for the origin stories, which is ambitious for the number of characters they have. It looks good, but even if it turns out to be bad, I'll probably still watch it. I'm not into MK movies for the story.

The only thing I actively disliked from previous MK movies is Liu Kang's bicycle kick. Everything else I embraced with open arms. But it looks like Liu Kang can do his fire stuff in this movie, and the normal jump kick doesn't look ridiculous, so maybe I'll be spared that this time.
And I don't know why you'd bring up the Street Fighter movie. That was a low blow. Like, 'Johnny Cage vs. Goro' low blow.

How come Chun-Li isn't in the Mortal Kombat trailer?
Speaking of street fighter. There are not enough face palms for this.

*Pours some out for Senor Julia* Honestly it feels like blasphemy to think of rebooting the Street Fighter franchise.
The one thing I'll say about the new Mortal Kombat movie is: since I'm not obsessed with the games or lore like I was a teenager, I don't know if they ever explained how Jax got his arms replaced officially so this is a cool way to tie that in.

I saw it, was ok. Kano got me through the laggin middle. Great opening and ending tho. I missed the cheesy electronic soundtrack.

I finally saw it, and I also don't disagree with Orville. If you like the franchise, you'll probably be entertained. The film was mostly predictable throughout, but towards the end they threw in some twists that I liked.
The villains are definitely more charismatic than the heroes, which is problematic.
