Introducing Adivion Adrissant

Carrion Crown

I have an idea to make Adivion more a part of the game but I’m not sure it will work with the mechanics of the game. I can only buy the books one chapter at a time right now so I’d love some advice from someone more familiar with the campaign. I want to introduce him in a Dorian Grey sort of way. I was really inspired but the idea that this campaign was based on the classic gothic horror stories. I want him to observe the players through paintings throughout Ustalav with a symbol on them. (Probably some symbol for the Whispering Way or such). I want to have the players make perception checks to see if they know they are being watched and can figure out from where. I also need help deciding on the DC for these checks. I’m just not sure this is a good idea. Thoughts?

Welcome to The Carrion Crown AP!!!

I like your idea, in both campaigns I run I made Adrissant a dear friend of the Professor and was the benefactor who paid for the early careers of the the PCs, he is with the Professor in an early scene, a few years later he is a pallbearer and sings The Future Belongs to Me at the funeral, he is quite familiar with the PCs from many years of contact and can scry them at any time he chooses.

I’m running the AP now and you can PM me for direct advice, I have one more GM and the authors of Broken Moon and Wake of the Watcher giving advice as well on chat.

Ok so I'm fairly new to this site and I can't seem to figure out how to send a PM. Could you send me one? I'm very interested in whatever advice I can get.

Oh hey, that paintings idea is pretty cool. While I don't have much to add, I can confirm a few locations which already have paintings established.

Haunting of Harrowstone has one painting of a historic Grand Prince of Taldor somewhere in the prison iirc.

Wake of the Watcher (Book 4) has a room filled with paintings of a plot-significant noble family's line in a decaying manor house.

I don't remember if Ascanor Lodge (Broken Moon, Book 3) explicitly has any particular paintings, but it would be so very easy to slip one in.

I can't say I have any justification for how Adivion managed to get his mark on some of these paintings, at least as-written but still a cool concept worth figuring in.

if you listen to the Hideous Laughter Podcast, the GM comes up with a means early on to introduce critical NPCs for each of the books early in Book 1, including Adivion.

Adivion makes another appearance in Book 2.

I like the painting idea.
