Fly By + Broadside

Rules Questions

If I successfully execute a Fly By can my gunner do a Broadside for the free attack on one of the enemy ship's quadrants that I get to take?

No.

I don't think flyby gives you a free attack

Flyby

The ship moves as normal, but it can move through 1 hex occupied by an enemy starship without provoking a free attack (as described in Moving through Other starships). During the following gunnery phase, you can select one arc of your starship’s weapons to fire at the enemy vessel as if the vessel were in close range (treat the range as 1 hex), against any quadrant of the enemy starship. To perform this stunt, you must succeed at a Piloting check (DC = 15 + 1–1/2 × the tier of the enemy starship). If you fail this check, your starship still moves as described above, but you follow the normal rules for attacking (based on your starship’s final position and distance), and the movement provokes a free attack from that starship as normal.

The benefits are

1) you don't take the AOO
2) You pick your firing Arc AND their target arc during the next gunnery phase.

You could use a broadside for that. But there's no free attack.

So, yes - with the clarifications.

Yes, that part about the free attack was not what I was trying to say. Breith's edit of my post is what I was trying to say. BigNorseWolf mentioned that you get to choose the enemy's target arc also. Where does that come from in the rulebook?

That comes from the definition of fly by attack, as posted above. You pick what arc you fire from. You pick what arc you fire into.

I got it. Thought he was saying you pick the target arc they fire at you. What he means is you pick the arc on your ship you want to fire from and what quadrant of the enemy ship you shoot at.
