*SPOILERS* Rise of the Runelords: Chapter 2, Advice Wanted

Rise of the Runelords

My campaign is currently at the end of chapter 2.

Simple Explanation: My players took out Xanesha at the Shadow Clocktower before ever approaching the Sawmill. They then followed it up with fighting some cultists (The next day) in the basement of the Sawmill. I am unsure of how to have the judge react. He just came out of charm and doesn't have a strong reason to be antagonistic to the PC's besides killing some of the "workers" in the basement. In my mind he would be in hardcore damage control, try to sweep this all under the rug and hide evidence, even if(or maybe moreso) the PC's insist on being violent it would be a political/judicial outcome. I am interested in other people's thoughts on this, especially if it can result in some side-quest material later on in the adventure path.

More Information: Player's arrived in Magnimar and were somewhat creative and rolled well in establishing surveillance on the townhouse. I had already decided ahead of time that the Faceless Stalkers would instead approach the townhouse as part of the town guard/watch to surprise them to make the encounter make more sense. Instead of having their surveillance come to naught, I had the faceless stalkers approach and search it for signs the PC's had been there in the middle of the night. Again, really good rolls and decisions. So, they managed to follow the faceless stalkers to the Sawmill..tried to divert them a bit there..still with the good rolls and choices...made it to the tower and decided it was the "bad guys" hideout.

Well, if the PCs report any of this to the authorities the good judge will certainly hear of it. He could then invite them to meet with him to get a more in depth update on their findings and offer a reward.

Depending on the specifics of what they report he would push the idea that it is over, or that the Watch will finish the clean up.

Sounds like Judge Badguy might come out of this smelling like roses. Which is fine--he really doesn't have to be taken out of the picture for things to proceed smoothly, especially if the remaining cultists mysteriously close up shop and relocate. Sometimes the bad guys just get away with it.
