Campaign module suggestions.

Pathfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

Hey guys. I'm looking into starting a campaign for a few friends. They have a few ideas for characters they want to play and I'm trying to find a good, large module to settle them in, since I'm not totally competent in creating my own world.

I'm looking for a campaign that starts at 1 and goes up pretty high like an adventure path.
The characters that they really want to play are, fairly unique. The main character is going to be an inquisitor, based loosely Victor Saltzpyre. The second is going to be a neutral-evil, poleaxe using gnoll-like fighter. The two are, while conflicting in ideals, using the comradery of each other for selfish benefits, both likely to take betrayal teamwork feats.

I've been browsing over Paizo adventure paths, and I'm kind of liking a few but nothing is really standing out to me as appropriate to the inquisitor as I'd like.
So far the ones that I remotely feel are appropriate are Second Darkness, Carrion Crown, Hell's Rebels, Council of thieves, and to some extent, Legacy of Fire.

The ones that stands out the most to me so far Carrion crown and second darkness.

I think Carrion crown may be a good fit, but I'm kind of curious about recommendations from anyone more experienced than myself.

Out of the ones you picked deffently carion crown second darkness is kind of... Meh

It is intriguing that you have focused on the inquisitor as a potential problem rather than the NE literal monster race

There are many campaigns and areas (in golarion at least) where a Gnoll simply will not be tolerated with out a lot of extreme bending by you as the GM. For starters the two urban games you mentioned - straight out the window. No one wants to live down the street from a Gnoll known for his poleaxe

What is the thought process behind this character?

As for games second darkness and legacy of fire are both 3.5 so would need converting to the correct rules system including every NPC

Second darkness is widely regarded as one of the select if not the weakest AP. Legacy of fire I believe starts with the characters captured to be sold as slaves so could work as a theme with weird characters

Carrion Crown is set in ustulav where despite all the horror stuff they are very suspicious people. Again they wouldn’t take to Gnolls and the hook could be tricky. In the past in that nation warlords led armies of orcs to conquer them. Gnolls could be viewed the same

Others to consider :

- Serpents Skull - marooned and completely isolated
- Kingmaker - exploring and untamed area and forming your own settlement where you make the rules about what is acceptable
- Ruins of Azlant - going to a new colony
- Shattered Star - I believe is largely a treasure hunt in multiple dungeons rather than civilised society (another reason why the urban games don’t work - they often require mingling in civilised society with well to do people - an Gnoll could not realistically do this)

Your party make up means you need to strongly consider the themes. And always question WHY someone is so keen to play an evil character. If they just want to go around murdering with no repercussions then very few APs will work

There is an evil AP of course (well 2, one is third party)

So, the character isn't actually a gnoll, but gnoll is the closest in-game race for explanation. The player wanted to be a warhammer Skaven, which I'm willing to work in. The inquisitor is based somewhat on warhammer as well. The idea is that the two had a bit of an altercation, but the skaven does not wish to be part of the tribe anymore and the two are using each other to further their skills in battle.

So, even though the monstrous race is definitely not going to be the best solo operative, they will be accompanied by an inquisitor with pretty high charisma. The buy-in to the campaign not that he had a reason to attend himself, but that the inquisitor did.

There are some back-story elements between the two that made me want a campaign that keeps them, fairly close to somewhere. The campaigns that travel, or rather open with traveling somewhere unexplored or abandoned seem like it would take away from that.

There are ratfolk for skaven ...

You search is why many want an AP in absalom as no one cares about the races there
