Starfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

Is there any indication of the use of AI's in this game? AI controlled ships, space stations, etc.?

There's a whole planet in the core system that is populated entirely by AI's of various sorts, Aballon. The artificial race there is called the Anacites. There's an entire space station in the setting section that's controlled by an out of whack AI as well.

There are mentions in the ship section of the AI in the on board computers as well as in the item section on computers of limited (non-sentient) AI's available for purchase for both systems.

In the setting, though, AI are considered "people" so you can't purchase one for your ship or computer that's really a person. You can get pretty close (the ship computers effectively do aid another to multiple skill roles every round of starship combat), but it's explicitly limited to non-sentient AI for most players.

Personally, I don't see any reason why a group couldn't hire a willing AI to run their ship, or act as an NPC hireling in other ways, especially at high levels. I expect that government, church, and corporate funded capital ships have on board sapient AI that act as part of the crew. I don't know what the rules for that would look like, but I'm hoping that they're available in the Armory/Equipment book coming out in June. If not, I'll probably end up making something up, if my players turn out to be interested in it.

How many ships stations could an AI control at once, in your opinion?

If it were an AI that's roughly as intelligent as a normal character (8-20 Int/Wis/Cha), I'd say 1 station, the same as an NPC. A hyperintelligent AI that's far beyond what a normal character could be, I'd let it control as many stations as there are nodes on the computer.
