Beginning the game with Briar.

Kingmaker

Hello all. I am DMing a game of Kingmaker in a few weeks, and my group has a decided preference toward signature weapons, acquired early in play or through the (pre-eratta) heirloom weapon trait. My question is what would the impacts on the story and gameplay would happen if one of my players were to begin with Briar as an heirloom weapon. I am running this with the mythic rules in play and many tweaks found on this forum. Briar would only start as a masterwork cold iron sword, perhaps increasing as the players complete mythic trials? I am at a loss and hope this forum can help me.

I think it would work, but you'd have to be sure that the character with Briar kept playing all the way to the end.

That is what I thought, and I am fairly certain he will. How would you suggest that I adjust the treasure in book 5? Should I just remove Briar and not worry about it? Am I correct in assuming that Nyrissa can not directly sense it?

If you're doing signature weapons, then you can just boost them appropriately for the amount of wealth at the point the PCs are at. (A vorpal weapon is pretty powerful...)

Nyrissa can sense whatever you, as the GM, want her to sense, but it makes more sense that she can't know what/where Briar is, at least before it fully awakes.

Thanks for the help! I think I will treat it like a signature weapon and have her unable to sense it. Thanks for all the help.
