Deflect projectiles + solarian crystal

Rules Questions

Hi,

As stated in the class feature description, the Solarian Solar weapon is as a one-handed kinetic advanced melee weapon.

Also, the Deflect projectiles feat states :
When you would be hit by a ranged attack from a weapon or Spell that deals energy or kinetic damage, you can spend 1 Resolve Point as a reaction to make an attack roll with a nonarchaic melee weapon that deals the same general category of damage (energy or kinetic) with a +5 bonus.

But what happens if you add to your Solar weapon a solarian Photon crystal that adds fire damage? Can you deflect energy ranged attacks aswell?

Yes. You can even do that with just Plasma Sheath when photon attuned.

Not sure about additional damage working for the feet. I do agree that plasma sheath works as it replaces the damage type to a new one.

What you target is irrelevant. The wording on the feat is

Quote:
make an attack roll with a nonarchaic melee weapon that deals the same general category of damage (energy or kinetic)

.

The type of armor you're targeting doesn't determine what type of damage you are doing. You can still target KAC but if the attack is doing fire damage, DR/- won't lower it, but fire resistance would. If you're doing energy damage, you can reflect energy attacks.

Well can Reflect that energy type ;) just saying not sure about additional damage if adding a d4 of say sonic damage allows you to treat the weapon as the same general category

It says nothing about a specific energy type. If you do energy damage, you reflect energy damage. Now, how this works with weapons that do partial energy and partial kinetic I don't know. Probably a DM call at this point.

However, it's either all or nothing. Nowhere in the text does it support just reflecting some types of energy.

Yeah hes right on that one its igther Kinetic or energy for that feat.

If the weapon deals physical damage, it reflects physical damage. If the weapon deals energy damage, it reflects energy damage. If it does both, then I would conclude it can reflect both.

RAW, I'd say Space McMan is right. RAI is hard to tell.

So having had sleep and rereading of feat I agree with space mcman. If you add the damage you can deflect both this may change my views on some weapons value as well.
