Hey all,
I apologise if this information has been covered elsewhere, I've not been able to find it. My quick question is, are characters that you like from the RotRL set (including ones that have been through journeys and collected loot as well as ones that you haven't yet played with) able to be used in later sets and expansions, I.e. Is there any cross over play and compatibility between the characters and the sets?
Thank you in advance
Crim

Yes, you can use any of the characters from any base set or class/character deck in any of the adventure paths, including the OP adventure paths.
You'll find that some characters, especially with regard to their roles, or most suited for the adventure paths in which they are included because their rules capitalize on mechanics specific to that set. For example, several of the characters in the Skull & Shackles AP have rules that revolve around firearms or ships or items with the Swashbuckling trait, so they are sub-optimal in other APs. In general, the versions presented in the class/character decks are more general use and don't suffer from this "problem" (though they also suffer from the converse in that their rules aren't optimized for the mechanics specific to the APs).
Note that you won't be able to cross characters that have been through APs into other APs (with the exception of the "Adventure 7," which requires that you have the complete Wrath of the Righteous AP). So once you finish an AP, that's it. Think of each AP as a finite challenge. So you might take RotRL Kyra through multiple APs, starting her at "level 0" each time and seeing how she develops differently through each AP. Conversely, playing RotRL with RotRL Kyra is slightly different from playing the AP with CD Kyra, or with Drelm (from MM). So there's lots of room for replay of the APs, both using the same character each time as well as using different characters (not to mention different combinations of characters and alternate feat/deck choices).

Hey Tyler,
Thank you for the response, I'm now more in the know! Haha, just one clarification on the last statement you made. Are you saying that if I say, use RotRL Lini and take her through all the adventure paths in that set, I couldn't then 'carry on' with her into the later released sets (assuming I don't want to start over with her and keep her feats and loot etc)

I do not recommend using the characters included in one base set in a different set. Characters included in base sets are tuned for that particular set, and may have difficulties if you try to take them elsewhere. The class decks are set-agnostic, and can be used with any base set.
With class decks, I do not recommend mixing in more than 2 or 3 of them. Too many class decks also dilute the set's flavor and make it harder to get boons included in the set that assist in tackling the set's unique challenges.
Besides, with over 100 characters, why play the same one all the time? Give some other ones a try :)
Each AP is a standalone game. Once you complete an Adventure Path, that character is done; they retire and enjoy the rest of their life. While you can homebrew things to let them continue, you are meant to start each AP with a fresh character (no feats, 15 card deck of only Basics, etc.)

Thanks Skizzerz!
So I like playing Lini at the moment in RotRL, can you recommend someone for the next set?

Much of that depends on what style of game play you prefer. Also, what will your next set be? There's no need to play the APs "in sequence" because they are not sequenced, per se. If you like playing RotRL Lini in RotRL, you might enjoy S&S Lini in S&S, or perhaps any of the other druids (Channa Ti in MM, another version of Lini and two other druids in the Druid CD), or perhaps Shardra, a shaman, in WotR.
Alternately, there are plenty of other highly enjoyable characters to pick from. The angelkin magus, Talitha, is a current favorite that plays quite differently from Lini. The various oracles (Alahazra and others) are also very enjoyable.
I suppose my cop out response is that you should download the free (!) character sheets that are available and see which characters tickle your fancy. Some of the newer ones (the most recent character/class decks) aren't available for download yet, but you can get an idea of what each character is like from the blog entries.

It depends what you like to do. Lini is a pretty versatile character; she can smash some things, heal some things, and loves animal allies. Figure out what makes her fun and find other characters that do that well.
I would also say that some characters are transportable between base sets. Jirelle and Lirianne might not be great in sets outside of Skull & Shackles, but Alahazra would probably do fine.
Also, Mummy's Mask is the best base set out of all of them.
