I'm not familiar with Pathfinder Tales. Can someone explain, thematically, why some of the cards interact?

Are you looking for a general overview or a list for each group of related characters?

Generally: they took characters from the various Tales novels, so some of their relationships are reflected in the card designs.

Specifically: I haven't read most of the Tales novels and none of the ones I have read feature the characters shown in the blog, so I don't know any more than you. The Pathfinder Wiki entries for the various novels and characters might have some insight for you.
