So I while have played tabletop rpg for years, nothing has really captured my imagination quite like starfinder has been able to.
Part of this is because of my love of mecha and magic. I know I have seen some people discussing it, and there seems to be a lot of fears balancing giant robots and that a lot of people seem to think mecha and mysticism dont go together. I just dont see it that way, but maybe I am missing something.
First for settings we have a lot of examples in popular media. Specifically anime and videogames. Like Voltron, Full metal Panic, Vision of Escaflowne, Heroic Age, Knight's and Magic (pretty new) and even Robotech (Macross) and probably my favorite, the videogame Xenogears,my mind jumps to these examples for a blend of technology and mysticism. Most emphasis is on technology, but not all (looking at you Escaflowne). My question for setting is two fold, are there any specifically that I should go back and look at for story arcs? And are there any setting loopholes in starfinder I should adress?
For rules I feel like they have given is tools to begin working on it with either just providing tweaked/added power armor. Or for a game with a real emphasis on it give each player a small size starfighter that they can customize and thematically describe it humanoid (or animal like voltron or ......power rangers). I know that the second is mpre complicated with more specific usage and planning plus would have to modify points given to the group as a whole if i want to let them still have a ship as well. The easier route seems to me to just modify power armor specifically the flight suit. It seems to be the best of the lot in my opinion. I am looking for pitfalls beyond players not getting into but i feel like paizo has done a great job giving us tools to build these blended versions of technology and mysticism but maybe I am overlooking something in the system and trying to simplify to much.
