Androids with uploaded personalities?

Grand Lodge

There's an SFS adventure that mentions uploading an NPC's personality (and presumably soul?) into a robot body.

Is this effectively an android, or something different? Is uploading into an android body something people do to extend their lives? Is uploading into some other robot body different, but also something people do to extend their lives?

I'm trying to get a sense of what sort of android backstories make sense.

Sounds like the sort of Longshot plan a desperate man of wealth might attempt, if it's the soul. Otherwise you basically create star wars style droids.
Speaking of personalities, I imagine the inverse is something that the "virus bars" from the Iconic Operative's backstory provide. All androids, some moreso than others, can get "high" off of emotions because of how muted their own are. It would work sort of like the BTLs from Shadowrun in that respect. Some androids are junkies for (deliberately unstable) personality substitutions and emotion stimulators.

Aaand now I have the mental image of a depressed Android ekeing out an existence as a bargain store clerk, with a sizable portion of his wages going to a subscription to a personality substitution program that he turns on during shifts so he doesn't get fired.
