Phase Shield Usage

So the Phase Shield has a capacity of 40 and a usage of 2 but no duration on the usage. Same with the Titan Shield which has a capacity of 40 and a usage of 10 but no duration on the usage. How long do these items continue to operate? Are they use once and gain a constant effect until disabled? If so, that just boggles the mind and defies physics. Can i leave a titan shield on forever?

"Usage
This entry lists how many charges are consumed when the
armor upgrade is used. This might be per activation or a certain
duration. If an armor upgrade uses a certain number of charges
over an interval, the upgrade’s abilities can be shut off before that
amount of time has passed, but it still uses charges for the full
interval. For instance, an upgrade that uses charges at a rate of 2
per round would still use 2 charges if activated for half a round."

If it doesn't specify per round then its upon each activation. You can have your phase shield on but can't use any items in that hand.

And sure, it defies physics in the sense that if I leave it on for 24 hours it only takes 2 charges which is kinda odd but this is maybe the tech doesn't continually drain after activation because it simply charged particles surrounding it.

I would have liked it to be something like each time you are attacked it drains a charge.

I'm not 100% sure but if it were, for example, particles that were charged they don't lose charge over time? At least not in a being's lifetime?

My initial reading suggested that this was in the case. Can you point me to what I got wrong?
