just make it "weapon training." i.e., the bonus applies to all weapons.

sure, this would remove some of the customization, but it would make the fighter truly the master of combat.

smart? silly? stinky?


Would it break the system? No, I don't believe so. Would it remove an aspect with flavorful intent? Yes, but I don't believe the intent was fully realized by the mechanics of the gaming system. Getting walloped on the head by a swordmaster isn't much different from getting walloped by a master of the axe, hammer, spear or flail. Bows function differently enough, but that comes from feat support.


Most martial PCs have a primary weapon they use for 95% of their attacks. "+3 to hit with your primary weapon" isn't much different power wise than "+3 to hit with all weapons".

What it would change would be the tendency to make 95% of your attacks with the same weapon and encourage more switching up. That, IMO, would be a good thing.
