Hi, total newbie here. I'm planning to try out Pathfinder for the first time at my local gaming con (Game Storm) in a couple weeks. I've read the online documents and created a character.
Looking at the con schedule, nearly all of the low-level Pathfinder sessions are including pre-generated characters. Is this a rule of some scenarios that you can only use the provided characters? If not, is it general practice to allow someone to play a custom character, or will most GMs insist on sticking with the pregens?
(Signups start well before the con, so if I wait until then to ask, I'm afraid I'll miss my chance to sign up. But I don't want to take up a signup slot away from someone else if it turns out I can't bring my custom character. And no, the signup system doesn't provide any way to ask a GM a question directly.)

At the moment the Honor's Echo short quests are pregen only (Occult Adventures pregens). There are a few other scenarios (We Be Goblins, We Be Goblins Too, etc., Serpent's Rise, Serpent's Ire, True Dragons of Absalom, Through Maelstrom Rift) that use pregens because the entire plot assumes you are of a certain race/affiliation (like the goblins in We Be Goblins that you can't normally play).
Just about everything else can be played by Pregens or normal characters. The Silverhex quests were originally used to introduce the Advanced Class Guide pregens but now can be run by any legal characters.

Just looked at the Game Storm website. I think you are referring to The Confirmation, The Wounded Wisp, and the Consortium Compact. All those are freely playable by your legal custom character. They are the introductory scenarios so it looks like the Organizers just wanted to let people know they would have pregens, dice, and pencils available if the players didn't have their own characters. Most likely it will be a mix of both.
