I have recently decided to dabble in writing my own module. The first one is being designed mainly to run at cons or gaming days as a one shot. The process has led me to ask myself a lot of questions. So today’s article is just about the process I’ve been going through. More importantly though I’d like to start a conversation for those who have written modules in the past and give a place for those who are looking to dabble in module writing in the future to talk about their process.
Have you written a module for publication either free or for sale already? What was your process like in deciding things like the number of encounter? Have you written a module with a time constraint, like a one shot meant to fit in a four hour time span? How has this been different from writing a module without one? If you’re on your first try – as I am – what hurdles are you looking to overcome? Do you add pregens to modules that aren’t one shots?
