Answers to such questions are likely eventually to be answered in this thread.
In this case, check out the fourth post:
Can I pick up my pre-order at Gen Con?
While we previously have only offered product pick up for individuals who are subscribed to a product line with volumes releasing at Gen Con, we are revisiting our methodology and execution of pre-paid items at Gen Con. Stay tuned for more details!

It will sell out because if it's a hotly anticipated item attendees will buy copies and put them up on Ebay at inflated prices to pay for their Gen Con trip. If you have every been to Gen Con you see these people with their cell phones taking pictures and posting items they have bought from the dealers area that not available to storefronts on Ebay. The best thing that Paizo can do is to release Starfinder to the brick and mortars the week of Gen Con.

That might happen for limited-edition or exclusive products from other publishers, but you don't need to worry about that with us.
First, the Starfinder Core Rulebook is not a limited edition, nor is it a convention exclusive. It will be available at retailers and at paizo.com, and the official retail release date is the first day of Gen Con.
Second, while it's impossible to predict the exact number of copies of a product we need to satisfy demand at a show, we'll do our best to give all attendees an opportunity to buy the book. For example, if we were to see on Thursday that we've grossly underestimated demand, we would likely limit the number of copies we sell each day to ensure that we still have product left for people who only attend Saturday. I can't promise we won't run out, and I certainly wouldn't recommend waiting until the last day of the show, but if you make a reasonable effort, you will probably be able to buy what you want.
Finally (and not directly related to this product), while we do occasionally offer limited-edition and "convention exclusive" products, we always reserve copies for paizo.com, and in quantities that we expect to last a reasonable amount of time. (Speaking as an owner of Paizo and a collector of things, I am frequently frustrated when companies offer strictly geographically limited exclusives, so I personally have mandated that we don't do that.) I want to ensure that our most motivated customers get a reasonable opportunity to purchase everything we sell at a fair price regardless of where in the world they live.
