One of the things I love most about Golarion is that there is a ton of stuff left unwritten. It allows me to expand on things in my games and invent new things to further enrich the game world. A part of the setting that always interests me are the divine being they have and how the interact with their followers and each other. On one of the Pathfinder FB pages I play a little game of creativity where I ask about what kind of character you would make to follow a god. This week I'm looking at Thisamet, the Empyreal Lord of celebrations, feasts, and holidays.
Sitting at our theoretical gaming table, our GM turns to us and says, "All of the characters must be followers of Thisamet, although they do not need to be divine casters." What character do you make? Who is he? Why has he chosen The Blithe Spirit as his patron? In what ways does he further the Empyreal Lord‘s goals? Why would he be attracted to this beings doctrine?

The past two winters I have been toying with the idea of a good-aligned winter/cold character, probably a caster much as I hate Vancian magic; an amalgam of Ithaqua and Santa, as it were. A Slyph sky druid seems to fit the first influence (as well as partly the 3.X version of Santa), while the second is harder to pin down-perhaps a level or two of Inquisitor? Not sure yet, but that's a sketch of the OOC underpinnings.
Character-wise, this is a person who is restless and ever-moving by his own inner nature and so finds deep satisfaction and enjoyment from gatherings and celebrations, in part as oases of happiness among life's daily struggles. Inwardly he may be yearning for home or trying to combat loneliness and finds it in events rather than a particular place. This is especially so during wintertime with warmth and cheer standing against the cold throwing that struggle into sharp relief. The communities these form and the joy they bring are precious to our wanderer and so he cherishes and tries to nurture them, taking part when he can.
The song "I like life" from SCROOGE sums this up fairly well:
Life likes me
Life and I fairly fully agree
Life is fine
Life is good
'Specially mine, which is just as it should be
I like pouring the wine and why not?
Life's a pleasure that I deny not
I like life
Here and now
Life and I made a mutual vow
'Till I die
Life and I
We'll both try to be better somehow
I like life
Life likes me
I make life a perpetual spree
I like songs
I like dance
I hear music and I'm in a trance
Scrooge
Tra-la-la
Ghost of Christmas Present
Oom-pah-pah
Ghost of Christmas Present and Scrooge
Chances are we shall get up and prance
Where there's music and laughter
Happiness is rife
Why?
Because I like life!
Drinking life
That's the thing
Makes a man want to suddenly sing
Sing and dance
And perchance
Seeing life from a different stance
When you learn how to live it
Life is free of strife
That is why I like life!
So Thisamet fits his outlook well, while in turn he brings cheer with him, partaking sincerely and trying to make them the better for his presence, such as distributing blessings large and small (I'd expect orisons like Purify food/water, Guidance and Light might go far in making a holiday go that much better :-) )
The sample idea of Brighton’s Berth from CRB Home for the Holidays is very much in this same vein.

Seems like a bunch of these go resurrected. This is a very interesting idea and I certainly say Brighton of Brighton's Birth as very Santa like.
