Pathfinder Battles: Worldscape!

Miniatures

The Exchange

So, now that Worldscape is a thing in the pathfinder comic, might we be seeing some iconic sword and sorcery characters as miniatures for the Pathfinder Battles line?

I know I am not the only one who would be interested in a Pathfinder mini of Red Sonja, John Carter, Tarzan, and the like.

I wouldn't get my hopes to high. I suspect that this would be a licensing nightmare to try to do. As far as I know, the only reason the comic is able to be done, is because Dynamite has the rights to those characters for comic books (and only comic books). Paizo would have to negotiate with the various properties holders if they wanted the rights to have miniatures made of them (either them or WizKids would, not sure how this would work exactly). John Carter is the only one (as far as I know) who is even partly in the public domain (the first three books made it before ERB inc. managed to get the copyright renewals in place.)

WizKids is focusing on mainline fantasy for the foreseeable future, and passed on the idea of including these characters in a Pathfinder Battles set, though plans for that line are very flexible and if I wanted to include a few in upcoming sets I think they'd be cool with it, provided they were based on characters that are flat-out owned by Paizo or are part of the public domain (and thus don't require WizKids to have licensing deals with everyone involved).

Ironically, almost all of the legitimately Pathfinder characters in the Worldscape series already have Pathfinder Battles miniatures:

Valeros
Seoni
Kyra
Merisiel
Xanesha
The Gorilla King

All of them even have metal miniatures, too, either from Reaper or our old GameMastery line.

I'd LOVE to get a Fantomah mini in an upcoming set, but I think most PPM collectors might hate it more than the Seaweed Siren! :)

Of course, Pathfinder Battles is not our only potential avenue for miniatures...

Hi Eric,

when you say "Wizkids is focusing on mainline fantasy for the foreseeable future", i'm curious about possible "Starfinder" minis, but it is probably way too early to talk about that.

While i am not against Worldscape minis, i realize the appeal for a Red Sonja mini far outweights the one for a Fantomah.

I'm a little bit puzzled about your last comment though.

Do you think we'll get another PFB preview on friday or is your schedule too tight right now?

If so, any news about the "Rough Cuts" (supposed to be out in january) would be cool.

Thx, have a nice sunday.

PS: Kulan Gath would be my favorite for a mini so far.

I'm on vacation next Friday, so a post then is unlikely. Unfortunately things are going to get a little spotty for the next couple of weeks as the entire company (including me) cycles through holiday vacations.

My last comment simply means that WizKids is not the only miniatures company we work with, and we might be able to make something work with somebody else.

It is indeed too early to talk about Starfinder miniatures. At least publicly. We've been talking about it privately for months. :)

I'd love a Kulan Gath mini, too! Jonathan Lau is doing a great job with the character. Red Sonja's arch-foe plays a prominent role in #4, which I'm looking over for approvals right now. He looks completely awesome!

Thanks for the info Erik.

I wish you a restful and inspirational vacation and x-mas days, have a good time getting into 2017!
Where are you spending your holidays?

Best wishes,
Marco

I'm spending the holiday visiting my parents and brother's family in Minneapolis.
