Outfitting your scroll case

Was working on a first level arcane caster and got to the point where I wanted to buy some utility scrolls and my mind just came up blank.

So i figured I'd see what the wonderful people here thought. Starting with early levels and moving up what scrolls do you keep on hand for those "just in case" moments?

Here are some suggestions from an earlier thread asking something similar.

I am greatly disappointed in my google-fu.

5/5 5/55/55/5

comprehend languages: because you come across a lot of weird languages and its nearly impossible to have them all

Endure elements: you get sent to lots of exotic places where the weather is trying to kill you.

Air bubble:for gunslingers under water as well as the occasional gas cloud

magic weapon: for low level parties fighting ghosts

monkey fish: climb ? swim? got it

make whole: because broken equipment SUCKS

Obscuring mists: because snipers or recovering a retreat are bad. use on babaus casting deeper darkness to even the odds

Glitterdust: for invisible critters

See invisibility: likewise

Deafness: i cast on myself. I voluntarily fail the save. suck it harpy's (80% of the time anyway) Or on the fighter and tell him to fail the save

Kreighton's Perusal: so you know what the book says NOW

http://www.archivesofnethys.com/SpellDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Aram%20Zey%27s%2 0Focus ara m zeys focus: gives a rogue the ability to fix magical traps (because they probably traded it out in an archtype) : its personal only so you have to hand it off and hope they have UMD OR you can get ranks in diable device yourself.

Page bound epiphany : you cast google it.

4/5 ****

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I prefer the thunderstone over the deafness scroll. It's cheaper, is multi target and wears off after an hour.

4/5 ****

Some other scrolls I'm fond of:

Suppress Charms and Compulsions (bard 2, cleric/oracle 2, paladin 2, sorcerer/wizard 2)

Removes confusion.

(I prefer Calm Emotions for multi-removal but there's some question on if the will save negates the confusion removal)

Lesser Restoration (Nice 5 use scroll for 2pp)

Delay Poison - easiest cheapest way to deal with most poisons

False Life - extra HP for when things might be dangeous

Invisibility Sphere - When you want to sneak the whole party past something.

Rifle Scroll of Communal Resist - Hit that 20 resist for everybody on a scroll.

Disguise Self - Can get you out of a lot of trouble or solve social issues at low levels with a +10 to disguise.

Magic Circle - Another spell that comes in handy and has a nice long duration.

a lot of those are going to be a bit out of reach for a 1st level character with only 150 to spend...and that's before buying his gear. A 1st level scroll will eat up a third of that amount.

I would suggest you look at the list of first level spells and pick up one that you would not prepare, but would like to have around if needed.

Scarab Sages 4/5

For first level scrolls, I like obscuring mist. When you have limited spell slots, it's not worth using one to prep it. But when you need to slow the combat down or escape, it's a great spell to be able to throw out there. And, it doesn't change its usefulness that much at higher levels.

I also like to carry a scroll of comprehend languages. Again, it saves needing to prep it, and there are scenarios where not being able to read the ancient language can make things much harder.
