Kult, opinions?

I recently came into possesion of a pile of material for this game. While I simply adore the setting and concept, the mechanics are something else. Has anyone actually played this game? How did the system work for you? Any advice or rule mods you suggest?

My all too brief encounter with Kult was, sadly, with FUDGE (because apart from being an absolutely stellar GM,that guy is waaay too fond of flavor-of-the-month simple/indie games and had recently discovered that horrid system).

There were a number of Kult-based websites back when I still entertained ideas of running it (several years ago) so I would just Google that stuff, if you haven't already.

Kult is the game where one of the three girls playing uttered in all seriousness "Thank God, he just wants to rape us" when meeting an unsavory but perfectly mundane NPC.

I'm a big fan of Kult from way back early in my roleplaying days (I can't remember how a bunch of early teen boys in a small Australian country town got their hands on the Kult books, but we did somehow). It's nearly 15 years since I played it though, so I can't say much about problems with the rules.

If you're interested in giving it a go, but don't like the ruleset, it might be worth taking look at KULT: Divinity Lost, a recently Kickstarted reboot of the system.

New version is based on the Apocalypse World system as are many recent games (I think they call them Powered by the Apocalypse games or something like that), but has been significantly altered to fit the tone of what they wanted. It's still a fair way off going to print I think, but you should be able to find previews and so on if you want to take a look, you'll just need to dig through the Kickstarter updates to find them.

Thanks for the insights and advice, still in a very early stage of pondering and considering running this, currently my gaming plate is full and nothing looks to be ending soon.
