Gencon Pathfinder Society events.

Pathfinder Society

So please take pitty on me, I was looking at the events catalog and found very few Pathfinder Society events other than card guild events and the kids events. Am I missing something or are there just not that many events at Gencon. This is far from my first Gencon and I am an old RPGA'er, but I am new to Pathfinder Society.

Welcome to the Society!

Society events tend to be very popular and fill up *fast*.

However, there are a few options that become available even as the convention approaches.

I. The Generic Ticket Route:
A. Purchase enough 'generic' tickets [usually 3(6.00$USD worth)] to cover admission to a given time slot.
B. Show up *early* before a slot and start looking for individuals that need to 'round out' their parties. Let them know up front you're on 'generic' tickets.
C. Provided the event is not over-sold, you will then be seated with the same table.
D. Have fun, and remember, Explore, Report, Cooperate.

II. The 'Real' Ticket Route:
A. Purchase a 'real' ticket to an event you'd like to play.
B. Show up *early* before a slot and start looking for individuals who need to 'round out' their parties.
C. Even if you can't find one, let the mustering person know that you have a 'real' ticket for a given event, and that you'd like to play. Barring unusual circumstances (Be there *early* to avoid that being an issue) you should be seated at the scenario of your choice.
D. Have fun, and remember, Explore, Report, Cooperate.

A lot of events have sold out or have come close to it, but do not give up hope.

There will be last-minute cancellations and the goal overall is to try and get as many players seated as possible.

As far as 'taking pity'?

Heck no.

You're coming to join one of the best 'living' campaigns I've seen, and everyone's new at some point or another.

Look forward to seeing you at GenCon, and hope that this was helpful!

To look for PFS RPG events, try looking under 'Paizo' as the event runner instead of Pathfinder Society. As noted above, some may be sold out, but if you see one that you have a character for, and you're interested in, show up! Not everyone that has a 'real' ticket issued to them makes a given slot, and as noted above, mustering officials will do what they can to get you seated!

When you search the events, be sure that you click "Show more events..." at the bottom of the page. The search function is very stingy and won't show you all the PFS events unless you click it multiple times. There are still hundreds of open tickets.

Edit: if you search "PFS" as a key word it works pretty well.

2nd edit: A quick check of the numbers shows that there are over 3000 tickets still available, with only a few adventures sold out. Two of the special events still have hundreds of tickets open. If you search "PFS", it actually looks like people got tired of hitting the "Show more events..." button and just picked the things near the top.

Not to hijack, but I was wondering how character creation is handled? Can I sign up for a level 1-5 event and roll my character there, or do I need to create a character beforehand?

you should create your character before hand, trying to create it in a gencon time slot with a sleep deprived dm in a noisy room is just asking for trouble.

I tried to make a Brief guide for newbies here let me know if it helps.

you're a ball of protoplasm until you play at second level, so if you mess something up it's no big deal.

Not 100% sure it will be available again this year, but there is usually a herolab station set up for making and printing characters, staffed with people who can help make it happen very quickly. If you can get there early or between slots and already have an idea what you want to make you can probably get it done.

Be careful to only chose options for books you own and have with you, the herolab stations have every book unlocked. Just because herolab has it available that doesn't make it legal for you without the books/pdfs to back it up.

And remember you can always play a pregen to try out new classes and apply the credit to your own level 1 character later. Even in between slots, during gencon is not the time to figure out how occultists or vigilantes work (love `em but they're complicated)

Awesome! Thanks guys! WEi Ji I will definitely be there, and Eric thank you so much! I was looking under Pathfinder Society in key words and searching PFS instead was exactly the solution I was looking for. I thought Paizo was pushing for a kids program really heavy! Haha! I haven't played an organized campaign since back when RPGA was a thing, and am excited to get back in the swing of things! see you all in a couple weeks!
