I would like to see them pull off a d20 game in a high tech setting with no magic. But I don't expect it to happen.
If This were more directly related to Pathfinder I'd agree, mostly because it would be more sure that fantasy elements can be ported over and mixed at the discression of the home table, but they're making a separate thing about it so I think Sci-fantasy is better off to differenciate themselves from some other cuerrent things and still keep the heroic pulp feel that they have.

Why don't they just make a whole new setting for Starfinder instead of leaving conspiracy theories that could fill a whole galaxy about what happened to Golarion?
Two reasons:
1 - like the death of Aroden, it give a central mystery to the setting that can generate plots.2 - given their short development cycle, leveraging existing material allows the writers to spend their time on "Science Fiction" aspects of the game.

Conspiracy theories also drives fans nuts (in a good way). But really its a nice galactic mystery that requires archeological exploration and digging up pieces that can be macguffins or big bads so you can retain a bit of the ancient/forgotten threats and exploration aspects that drive Pathfinder plots. Its not exactly unheard of. I mentioned in another thread that I was disappointed that nobody brought up the anime One Piece, where there is a Century of missing information in the past where there is no records of what happened during that time and a bunch of mysterious artifacts that allude to pieces of the history but otherwise people are scared of researchers digging too deep.
Actually that gives me an idea. Meet me in the Adventure Path #1 thread.
