Race.. why oh why

The Exchange

Ok so I'm all ready to accept that I can only play a core race or a Kirsune, Nagaji, Tengu or Wayang. But then I read a little farther and
it says this.

"Additional Class and race options from resources like the Pathfinder RPG Advanced Player's Guide, Pathfinder RPG Ultimate Magic, Pathfinder RPG Ultimate Combat, Pathfinder RPG Advanced Race Guild, and Pathfinder Campaign Setting: The Inner Sea World Guild are generally available with few or no alterations,"

So what are the additional Race options from these resources? I feel like it was pretty clear before this statement but after it I'm confused.

It means that those sources have additional character options (feats, archetypes, and spells, for example) that might be tied to a particular race. It advises that in general, you'll be able to use those options so long as you have access to that race.

As an example, the Advanced Race Guide has dwarf archetypes and grippli alchemist discoveries. Since I can always play a dwarf, the text you quote advises me that those dwarf options in the book are likely open for use. In the case of the grippli, though, I would need to ensure that I have access to that race (such as by a special Chronicle sheet) before using those options. Always be sure to check the Additional Resources page to confirm what is allowed from each resource.

Also the alternate racial traits. Which is what *I* thought it was referring too... :)

Such as gnomes who trade out improved perception for dark vision, or halflings that trade away the acrobatics bonus for 30' move.
