You need to pick a homeworld (describe it basically).
Enlistment, 6+ End: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11 Success
Basic Training (All at 0, unless background skills granted them, in which case they go up to 1)
Athletics (Any)
Battledress
Tactics (Any)
Heavy Weapons (Any)
Gun Combat (Any)
Stealth
I'm going to assume since you picked Star Marine, you want to roll on that one
Star Marine: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Battle Dress +1
Survival, End 6+: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 5) + 3 = 9 Success
Advancement, Edu 6+: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3) + 1 = 7 Success
Rank : 1 Lieutenant (Gain Leadership 1)
Event: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7 Life Event
Life Event: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11
Crime: The character commits a crime, is accused of a crime, or is the victim of a crime. Lose one Benefit roll or reduce your Social Standing by 1.

If there's a better version of a "Star Marine" out there then I'm open to suggestions but I couldn't find anything in the PDFs that I have.
Name: James Lawson
Homeworld: A planet devastated by a factional war. Even children, like James Lawson, were drafted to fight. The crust was eventually cracked by weapons of mass destruction; billions died as the planet split apart. Fighting continued in Zero-g by the few remaining survivors until outside forces intervened. When rescued from this world at war, James was re-educated and then he joined the Star Marines of his rescuers.
Does "reduce your Social Standing by 1" mean my Soc stat or something else?

mdt |

Yes, lose one benefit roll or reduce social stat by 1.
Planet's background skills : Zero G 0 and Vacuum 0
You may pick two additional background skills from :
Admin 0, Advocate 0, Art 0, Carouse 0, Comms 0, Computer 0, Drive
0, Engineer 0, Language 0, Medic 0, Physical Science 0, Life Science
0, Social Science 0, Space Science 0, Trade 0.
There's another book I have that does Mercenaries, which also has an expanded event table for the core book Marines, if you'd like to use either with your 2nd and subsequent career paths.

Forgot to check for Commission...
Commission, Soc 6+: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7 Commissioned as an Officer at the end
Enlisted :
Marine Rank 0 (Recruit, Gain Melee (Blade) 1 or Gun Combat (any) 1
Marine Rank 1 (Lance Corporal, gain Gun Combat (any) 1, must not be 1 already)
Commission
Officer :
Rank 1 (Lieutenant, Gain Leadership 1)

PDS |

Crime: Reduce social stat by 1 (Soc now 6).
Enlisted Marine Rank 0: Gun Combat (Slug Rifle) 1
Enlisted Marine Rank 1: Gun Combat (Slug Pistol) 1
Do the above skills fit the rules? If not then:
Enlisted Marine Rank 0: Melee (Blade) 1
Enlisted Marine Rank 1: Gun Combat (Slug Rifle) 1

mdt |

Yep, the above fits the rules.
Skills :
Athletics (Any) 0
Comms 0
Battledress 0
Heavy Weapons (Any) 0
Leadership 1
Medic 0
Gun Combat (Slug Rifle) 1
Gun Combat (Slug Pistol) 1
Stealth 0
Tactics (Any) 0
Do you wish to continue as a Marine? A mercenary? Something else? Muster out?
If you continue as a Marine, do you wish to use the expanded event table or the standard event table?

mdt |

Yes, typo, sorry. Not better, just more different events (36 events vs 12 events).
Second Term : Marines
Service Skill: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Stealth +1
Star Marine: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Sensors 0

Advancement, Edu 6+: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 3) + 1 = 6 Promotion
Rank : Captain (No benefit)
Event: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 LIFE EVENT
Life Event: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7

Battledress 1
Heavy Weapons (Any) 0
Leadership 1
Medic 0
Gun Combat (Slug Rifle) 1
Gun Combat (Slug Pistol) 1
Sensors 0
Stealth 1
Tactics (Any) 0
Contact
Rank 2 : Captain
Do you wish to continue as a Marine? A mercenary? Something else? Muster out?

mdt |

I think you'll like the Commando/Spec-Ops from the Mercenary book better, so I'll use that one...
Basic Training: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Gain +1 to Heavy Weapons (Any)
Spec Ops: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Gain +1 to Gun Combat (Any)
Survival, End 8+: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 6) + 3 = 12 Survival Sucess
Advancement, Edu 7+: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 6) + 1 = 9 Promotion
Rank 3 : Sergeant (Tactics: Military 1)
Event: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9 Life Event
Life Event: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10
Good Fortune: Something good happens to the character; he comes into money unexpectedly, has a lifelong dream come true, gets a book published or has some other stroke of good fortune. Gain a +2 DM to any one Benefit roll from his current career. (Commando)
Skills :
Athletics (Any) 0
Comms 0
Battledress 1
Heavy Weapons (Any) 1
Leadership 1
Medic 0
Gun Combat (Slug Rifle) 1
Gun Combat (Slug Pistol) 1
Sensors 0
Stealth 1
Tactics (Military) 1
+1 to any Gun Combat (pick existing or new one)
Contact
Good Fortune on Commando Muster out Rolls
Rank 2 : Captain
No objection to switching it out.
Do you wish to continue as a Commando? Something else? Muster out?
AGE : 30

I'm looking at Traveller Book 1 - Mercenary (mgp3801). In there I see under Mercenary is the Commando, and one of the specializations is Spec Ops. Let's do that.
I had the rolls up while watching the Doctor Strange preview premier so was already doing this while you posted. :)

PDS |

I thought that Merc/Command/Spec Ops advancement was also Endurance? Or is that a type is my version of the book?
Skill decisioning:
Athletics (Endurance) 0
Comms 0
Battledress 1
Heavy Weapons (Launchers) 1
Leadership 1
Medic 0
Gun Combat (Energy Rifle) 1
Gun Combat (Slug Rifle) 1
Gun Combat (Slug Pistol) 1
Sensors 0
Stealth 1
Tactics (Military) 1
Continue as a Commando.

mdt |

No, you're right, typo in my brain. :)
Service Skill: 1d6 ⇒ 3 Combat Engineer 0
Spec Ops: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Remote Ops
Survival, 8+: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3) + 3 = 7 FAILURE
Mishap: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8 Severely wounded. Roll twice on the Injury table and take the lower result. (Loss of 1 benefit roll)
Injury roll x2: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8
Severely Wounded, reduce 1 physical stat by 1d6 ⇒ 3 pts.
Forced out of Career, no event, no promotion.

mdt |

With forced out of Career, you'd be forced out of Mercenary careers. They are linked together (ranks transfer). So you could go apply for some other career, but not the Mercenary ones.
I'm assuming you'd like to go for the 'healing the damage medically' and owe at the end of career?
And yes, 4 years.
You could go for an Agent career, like Bounty Hunter. Int 7+ check to get in.
Corporate Agent, Body Guard for example. Int 6+ to get in...

mdt |

Age : 38
Basic Traing: 1d6 ⇒ 2 Deception 0
Bodyguard: 1d6 ⇒ 3 Guncombat (Any) +1 (increase one or add new one)
Survival, End 7+: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 2) + 3 = 6 Failure
Mishap: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9
Your corporation is bought out by an alien firm, you are ejected from the Agent career unless you have Language (any) 1 or Diplomat 2 or higher.
Blech, dice hate you right now

mdt |

Merc Pay for Medical Costs, using Middle scale, since no entry for Merc: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 50%
30K / 2 = 15K debt
3 careers benefit rolls (one with a +2 if it's on the Commando muster out table).
Rank 3 Max Rank (2 benefit rolls)
You have 5 benefit rolls total, which tables do you want to roll on for cash/benefits?

mdt |

Traveller is very very old school. You can die during character generation.
Age 34: 2d6 - 4 ⇒ (2, 3) - 4 = 1 NO aging
Age 38: 2d6 - 5 ⇒ (2, 2) - 5 = -1 Reduce 2 physical stats by 1.
