We need an ignore option

We seriously need an ignore function. I just made a joke about something that happened between me and another poster a year ago, and some random person that connected the dots based on another post I made (then deleted to rethink how to re-word it) decided to call me out because he didn't understand the intent of my joke and thought it was 'petty revenge'

When I asked that we not continue to derail the thread (and gave my actual non-joke answer at that point,) he then edited his previous post making a comment about how 'that's the best you could come up with after a year'

Seriously, I just want to be able to ignore people like him, and not have to deal with it. Then I could have apologized for the ill-thought out joke to the OP, and hopefully all would be well.

But now instead, his question is potentially derailed.

Plus, then if the OP had a problem with my 'joke' he would be able to ignore me.

My advice here would be to take this to Customer Service at customer.service@paizo.com. There've been a lot of "We want an Ignore option" threads, and they've always come to the same negative conclusion: Paizo isn't currently keen on the idea.

A better solution here would be to tell Paizo how the person is harassing you. In this case, this just doesn't seem to be a good issue to handle publicly. That goes for both you and the guy who's "policing" you, for the record.

See, I think that's taking it too far. I'm sad if Paizo doesn't agree. An ignore lets us just avoid any more issue with a person and avoid either person getting in trouble (AND avoid derailing someone else's thread)... and it's less work for Paizo to have to mediate and decide who is right in a dispute.

Then again, I guess it's like MMOs still have limits on your ignore list. Like, why can't I ignore every single player on my entire server if I really felt that was necessary?

In the meantime, oladon's Paizo Campaign Tools extension for Chrome and Firefox has some options to blacklist users on most of the boards.

To be fair, you have an ignore button in your head.

Forum "ignore" functionality is actually "suppress". Simply not seeing things/people we don't like is kind of... antisocial.

I know there have been a few times where I've had enough of a given poster within a thread and wished them away but know that things may be different in another thread.

I also shudder at the thought of being personally suppressed because someone has misunderstood me. I never aim to be a jerk. Ever. Sure, I'm willing to disagree, and debate, and strongly word things, but I'm NEVER trying to be abusive. The idea I'd get ignore because someone took something I said personally, instead of calling me out on it so I could explain/apologize... that sucks.

I'd prefer we all continue to act like adults and accept that sometimes people rub us the wrong way and take the personal responsibility to ignore the things we don't like to read, instead of having machines do it for us.

At this time, we have no plans to implement an ignore function. If you're running into a poster that's habitually not following our Community Guidelines or is harassing you, please let us know about it at community@paizo.com.

Whoa that's amazing even just for the campaign tools... No more accidentally posting as the wrong character! :D

ANd yeah, I guess Paizo not wanting to do an ignore function in a way is a good thing... They are actually willing to 'be cops' unlike my high school teachers (seriously, in high school I had a few teachers that when you tried to get something done about a bully, they were like "I'm not a cop." The worst was my 7th grade Science teacher who was only a high school Science teacher because he was in college to be a veterinarian when he got drafted for Vietnam, and so he switched his major to not have to go. So, he didn't really even want to be there at all.)and the CSRs of most MMOs...

A tangible example: My first interaction with captain yesterday was decidedly not positive. In fact, if I'd just Ignored him after that day and never heard anything else from him, I would probably think he was a real poopcanary. Since then, though, I've seen a lot more from him and have generally determined he's a pretty okay and funny guy. I'm glad I still get to see what that crazy over-aliased bastard has to say.

As Tin Foil Yamaka pointed out, anotherMage's profile has an ignore script for the Paizo.com forums.
