I'm running We Be Goblins as a play by post over at rpol.net, but it looks like the players abandoned it over Christmas. The group finished with the encounter with Lotslegs, but haven't fully entered the ship's area yet.
So my question is do I award a chronicle? If so, how much gold? I'm gathering they probably wont get the xp or prestige due to not finishing the adventure. But they already met the conditions for several of the items on the chronicle.
Also, do I cross off the boons or not? I'm thinking I do, but not sure.

Paladin, that actually leads me to another question I've always had but never asked
Does a GM get a full chronicle with XP and all even if the players don't? Or does an abandoned PbP hose the GM too?
GM always gets full credit and best case chronicle for the tier. It's the players that lose out if they abandon the game before going far enough in it.

If they've gotten to LotsLegsEatsGoblinBabiesMany, I think that would count as finishing 3 or more encounters since the games at the beginning are skill challenges which (I believe) technically count. That's too bad that they abandoned it, though, but at least you still get credit!
That helps. Do they get reduced gold? And do I need to cross off the boons?
I was thinking the skills challenges counted as encounters too, but wasn't sure if they counted as 3 encounters or just 1. I ran it as you should, with each occurring in sequence throughout the night. They even got some RP in between goblin games.

You can, if you really want to, total up all the treasure they've found so far and divide it by 4, and write that total on the sheet, and cross out any items on the chronicle they haven't found. Going for just half gold would be easier, as Starglim suggests. I do suggest you send them a reduced chronicle to make sure they realize that abandoning the game has consequences, since they now can't play WBG again for that particular character. (Of course, since it's evergreen, they can do so for other characters.)

To bring the Free RPG Day modules more in line with the rest of Pathfinder Society Organized Play, all current and future sanctioned Free RPG Day modules will award 1 XP, 1 PP and the gp amount listed on the Chronicle sheet if using the medium advancement track. If using the slow advancement track, they award 1/2 XP, 1/2 PP and half the gp listed on the Chronicle sheet. These apply only on successful completion of the adventure.
From a strict reading, I take that the PCs should earn 0 XP, 0 PP, and 0 gold. They should still get a chronicle giving them access to items found in the challenges and Lotslegs encounters.

This helps me a lot. I sent out an email warning everyone in the game, and if I don't hear back from everyone in five days I'm going to send out chronicles and inform them about the consequences of abandoning it.

John and I discussed the line "These apply only on successful completion of the adventure", which only shows up for Free RPG Day modules. While Matt is correct about the rules as they stand, they create a different standard for Free RPG Day adventures than everything else that is legal to run for PFS.
We will revise that line in the next version of the guide. For now, treat Free RPG modules as scenarios when deciding what to do for XP, Prestige, and gold.
In your specific case, since they did not complete 3 encounters (the goblin games count as 1 encounter together), they do not receive XP or prestige. As for gold, based on what they completed so far, 1/3 of the total gold is about right.

Thank you for the ruling. It's a shame it looks like most people jumped ship. I know one player IRL, and he had family and financial issues. The others, no idea.
